Car Wars 2013?

Perusing the SJ Games website, I noticed the information which can be found here: Daily Illuminator: Want Car Wars On Kickstarter?


For those of you who do not know, they are currently doing a Kickstarter project for Ogre. I was well aware of that. What I was not aware of was that there are plans to do a Kickstarter for Car Wars if the Ogre project goes well.

Ha! Yeah, I think I had that for my C64 (or some knock off). I wasn't very good at it.

Hopefully when they do the Kickstarter version update, they'll streamline the game. I hear the old version was really math-heavy. I want to play a game, not go back to school.

Was that game even winnable? My brother and I tried over and over again on our old Apple ][, but never made it very far.

Yeah, there was a lot of measuring and worrying about angles and acceleration, etc., as I recall. Now, the game came out just as electronic calculators were hitting the scene, so it would be easier to use today, even with the original rules. But that said, there's certainly ways to make it a little more abstract and streamlined.

(And it wasn't super-realistic anyway; they eventually retconned in that they were talking about electronic engines when they introduced more accurate gas engines, for instance.)

I would LOVE to see a revamped "old school" Car Wars (the early 80s version, not the card game).
