Sounds like a great book! If you dont mind I am curius, does it say what gods are worshiped in a forgotten realms version of saltmarsh (especially if the acolyte variant has a fr equivalent)? I've been thinking about playing a cleric in an AL game and I'm curious what gods are active! Thanks for the reviews! The parallels between the Greyhawk and Realms pantheons are not exact but as you might suspect there are Greyhawk had four main human cultures which provided gods: The Bakluni, Suel, Oeridian, and Flan, so there are often duplication among different gods. There's no notion of "portfolio" as in the Realms. In addition, there are "common" gods some of whom have no particular attachment to a particular culture. I forget the cultural origin of Keoland, but it's probably Oeridian. I don't really recall what gods would be common in the area but the older Greyhawk material which you can find fairly easily will say, at least to some degree. Procan: God of the Sea (can't remember) Pelor: God ...

I've been thinking about playing a cleric in an AL game and I'm curious what gods are active! Thanks for the reviews! That would likely be the normal deities of the setting, given its suggested location along the Sword Coast, and substitute deities should be pretty easy to figure out even if the book doesn't specifically give a list. From the deities I've seen in the previews so far, you could make the following substitutions: St Cuthbert = Helm, Procan = Umberlee, Erythnul = Malar. Vecna could remain Vecna given his multiversal worship (you could go with Velsharoon, but there hasn't been any indication that he's back in 5e). There's some differences in nuance (Procan isn't quite as malicious as Umberlee, for example), but in general those conversions should be fine. Given that the most important Gre...

  • 09:13 AM - Li Shenron quoted rfkannen in post New Race Feats Appearing in D&D's 'Xanathar's Guide to Everything
I am fine with the concept of ractial feats, and I love feats in general so I don't think we're nowhere near having too many of them. I just wish they hadn't continued with this trend of "half-feats" i.e. feats which also grant you ASI. A few feats working like that is ok, but now they are slowly becoming the majority. Wait, if barbed and wings were removed, which ones imply transformation? All the rest seem more like skills? I honestly don't see how the others are tranformative. My thoughts too. And IIRC only the draconic wings feat gave a permanent physical change, while the other gave "retractable" claws or spikes, which the character might have always had, but perhaps was not yet capable of making them work. They could be after all just physical changes due to coming of age, which in case of fantasy races doesn't have to work the same way it does for humans... who says that the bodies of tieflings and dragonborns have to stop developing at adulthood? Last time I checked, dra...

  • 01:21 AM - ccs quoted rfkannen in post [5e] How does my level 4 warlock build look?
Hiya! So I was planning my character till level 4, and was wondering if you think I should make any changes! Currently level 2. (we level fairly slowly) Already said im doing tome. Magic items, +1 rod of the pact keeper. equitment: dagger and studded leather armor. So I am the parties only healer, we do have a debuffing wizard and a battlefield control bard though, and I think I can mostly keep up with my patron feature and cure wounds. Right now we only have 1 character who can fight in melee, the dex based barbarian, so I thought it would be good if I gained some melee power to act as an off melee. Race tiefling, class warlock, patron celestial, boon tome. inspiring leader feat (dm ruled it stacks with level 10 feature) stats 5 str, 17 dex, 10 con, 14 int, 11 wis, 20 cha. class cantrips, eldritch blast, mage hand, true strike (this third one im not sure on.) race cantrips: thaumaturgy patron cantrips: sacred flame and light. pact cantrips: green flame blade(picked over booming blade ...

Well I saw "how many 5e fans want a warlord/warden" threads and it got me thinking, now that 5e has been going on for a while, what classes do you want? What classes do you think we need? What class do you want first? Why? None please. Subclass proliferation would be more acceptable than class proflieration. If you want more fighter archtypes, knock yourself out. But let's not create billions of classes--twelve is plenty.

What class do you want first? Why?Warlord, Psion, and Artificer. Edited 'psionist' to 'psion' for confusion with 2e class name/concept and general idea.

What classes do you want? Artificer, Warlord, and some Psionic classes. I'd also echo cbwjm's request for many more sub-classes. What classes do you think we need? None. They're very much a "nice to have". What class do you want first? Why? Artificer, because I run a lot of Eberron and that's the main missing piece.

...what classes do you want? None. What classes do you think we need? None. What class do you want first? None. Why? None :D I mean... I am not a fan of the idea of new classes at all. I would rather see new subclasses designed, soon and many of them. If and only if it turns out really difficult to make something a subclass, I can make an exception and accept a new class for that (Psion is the only one I can think about). I would even prefer prestige classes rather than more core classes.

Well I saw "how many 5e fans want a warlord/warden" threads and it got me thinking, now that 5e has been going on for a while, what classes do you want? What classes do you think we need? What class do you want first? Why?The remaining classes that were in an earlier PH1, first: The Psion (already in the pipeline as the 'mystic') and Warlord. Then prettymuch whatever you really /can't/ do right yet. Maybe some more martial classes if the Warlord doesn't use much design space. Some of the things that I notice the lack of are more slices of classes. The fighter can't be used for everything the 3.x fighter could, nor does it handle a dedicated defender like the Essentials Knight - the latter could be an archetype, the former could be a whole 'nuther class or few, or some more radical build option. Others are probably full classes: Artificer, Swordmage, Shaman, Avenger, etc...

  • 08:23 PM - Zaruthustran quoted rfkannen in post No idea what to do with a 5e light cleric, help!
Your Dex. is a little low for the ones that require a ranged spell attack. Dex doesn't impact ranged spell attacks. You use your spellcasting ability modifier (in the OP's case, Wisdom) for spell attack rolls. PHB, page 206, "Attack Rolls". I have never played a 5e cleric before so I am not sure what to do with this class. The Light cleric is a spellcasting cleric. Thanks to your domain you always have terrific combat spells prepared: Burning Hands, Faerie Fire, Flaming Sphere, Scorching Ray, Fireball. Save your healing for true emergencies, and encourage your party to use their own HD to heal themselves during short rests. The fighter, in particular, should be free from your healing magic--he can Second Wind himself for 1d10+fighter level HP every short rest. And the Paladin has Lay on Hands, to relieve the healing burden. Encourage him to take Inspiring Leader so your party has a steady supply of temporary hit points. So, with the party trained to heal themselves, feel free t...
