  • 07:25 PM - TrippyHippy quoted Kurviak in post Big Changes in ICv2's RPG Industry Charts, as Pathfinder Drops Off Before 2E's Release!
And you still think you know better than Lisa Stevens and Paizo's marketing team about the market share target for the 2nd edition of a game they have been successfully selling for a decade without having any of the real marketing & research data they have? It's not whether they have managed to sell for the previous decade that will be tested out by their new edition - it's whether they will maintain it. They've made a new edition because their marketing and managing team have identified that they need to boost sales, and they are taking their own calculated risks as every business does. The decisions made are not infallible, and people making criticism are not automatically incorrect. If that was the case, then every business would be fine and dandy forever. The criticism made here is the same as elsewhere by others too incidentally, and any marketing team worth their salt would be noticing this. As stated before, time will tell.

  • 05:18 AM - Retreater quoted Kurviak in post Recommend Some Rules Lite Systems
"Rules Light" is very open to interpretation, but I don't consider neither 5e nor C&C really light. Dungeon World may be the lightest you can get in a not retro clone format that is still close to D&D/Pathfinder I'm considering either D&D 5e or C&C as substantially less rules complex than PF1. I've played and GMed Dungeon World. I think it is incredibly different than PF (or really any other non Apocalypse Engine game). All it really has in common with D&D is a fantasy trope, right?

  • 04:06 AM - Blue quoted Kurviak in post Pathfinder 2 Character Sheet #2: Kyra, Human Cleric
In the pf2 play test a +1 bonus is much more powerful than in pf1 given the way critics functions in this rule set That's a good point - you're no longer just looking at a boolean pass/fail, there's also additional thresholds of success and failure. Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. Part of my hesitation is having to track lots of little bonuses instead of just a few meaningful ones, so we'll still have to see if it gets nitpicky and overfilled, but it isn't trivial as expected because of the mechanical advances they are doing around the rolls.

It is not going back, pf2 isn’t a 5e derivative but a pf1 one (or 3.5e if you want) It’s not “going back” for Paizo, who never left classic Vancian. It may be “going back” for folks who went from 3e or Pathfinder to 5e and are now considering switching to PF2.

  • 07:38 AM - Shasarak quoted Kurviak in post Resonance, Potency, & Potions: A Look At Magic Items in Pathfinder 2
It’s a play test and the developers said resonance is one of their riskier changes that the want to be tested to be adjusted or dropped for something different, they said they went for the most extreme version of the changes for the play test to be able to cut off if they don’t work. The problem is that Resonance already does not meet 3 out of the 4 goals that the designers had for it and the goal it does meet is kind of nonsensical anyway. You should naturally want to use a more powerful item (if given a choice). I heard an interesting quote today which seems appropriate: Resonance is like trying to get rid of a Gopher hole using dynamite.

It only mentions the wall to be at a maximum distance, nos the way the monk interacts with it. I prefer to think that monks projects their Ki to the wall to slow the falling If running a retro game, you may decide that's how it works of course, but you would not be using the rules as written. Ki was not a game codified concept introduced until the Oriental Adventures supplement, well after the creation of the Monk character class and these fall distances and circumstances were the RAW. It doesn't need to mention how the Monk interacts with it - the Monk doesn't use spells, this Monk doesn't use 'Ki', or psionics, or any other named mystical power source. Ergo - they physically interact with the wall, and everyone I ever encountered back then roleplayed it that way, because it was entirely obvious. To conclude anything else would have been illogical as there was no alternative explanation, and so of course no-one did. But back to the point, the infinite fall distance for any character taki...

  • 06:34 PM - quoted Kurviak in post Monks in Pathfinder 2: Fighting Styles & Ki
PF2 is not focused on pleasing people who loves 5e, it’s focused on making the best version of PF they can at this moment. If you love 5e keep playing it, it’s a great game. But I don’t like 5e that much so I’m very eager to see and gm PF2’s playtest Even as a Pathfinder lover, I have to generally agree that iterative attacks are only so valuable as something every class has access to. For specific builds, like the two-weapon fighter who can get 16 attacks in a turn and the lowest will only be like, a -10, yeah, iterative attacks can be fun and useful. But in those cases, long trains of iterative attacks really should be class features, rather than a base part of the system. I think 5E really got this right, in that some classes (like Barbarians and Paladins) only get one Extra Attack, and Fighters get four. It's no longer a penalty for a Fighter to take all their attacks because that's their thing. In the same sense that Wizards don't take a penalty for casting a 5d6 Fireball. Th...

In pf2 charisma is more important for everyone because resonance Ugh, Resonance. The only thing I've seen from the PF2 previews that I truly do not like, because I don't consider the "problem" it's trying to solve as a problem. I see it as both better than and worse than 5E's "solution" to the magic item "problem". Better in the sense that Resonance is not a hard limit like 5E's Attunement; Worse in the sense that I think 5E's wand recharging system is a better, more elegant solution if you accept that being able to spam charged items is a problem.

You are 100% wrong, the PDFs where told been free in their initial press announcement So why did you make a totally unnecessary reply that comes across as you being a complete jerk? Please refrain from such actions in the future. Just to prevent getting into a stupid war of words since I can be rather defensive at times, I am blocking you, just so you know.

You can use the V:tM for the rules, but changing totally the background, maybe getting some ideas from supernatural romance books, you can find background about these in their wikis. Another thing too I want nothing to do with any type of romance at all nor am I looking into them for ideas. My sugestión is to take requiem 2nd edición and remove anchors, humanity and covenants Well to be honest Requiem does a better job with the clans and bloodlines and covenants than Masquerade (especially I never liked the sect dichotomy) which I'll leave them in there but I'll totally ditch humanity and anchors though and of course make "Draugr" well to be entirely separate creatures or rather just use the Norse Draugr. Of course the only thing I like about Masquerade is it's disciplines though since they're powerful and combat effective than Reqiuem's disciplines which I might as well port Masquerade clans like the Tremere, Tzimisce and Lasombra as bloodlines including their disciplines intact. Which ...

If they follow a parallel to what they did in PF1, both Half-Orcs and Half-Elves will be handled as humans and not with fixed Boosts You’re probably right, I forgot they handled half-humans that way in PF1 (haven’t played much of it).
