    I imagine Sothor knew someone reliable in Bedegar, possibly hoping that the Baron would take him in. When that does not happen, because of not wanting to be associated with a fugitive, Sothor and his soldiers may have been working underground as a sort of resistance movement, using a secret hideout somewhere. (That may tie Saarthax to Herosmith14's character, if he's up for it. Frostbite may have been/still is one of Sothor's men.) In that case they would have rushed to the Baron's defense when the orcs came. I'm not sure how many men were in that squad, but I don't think it would've been very many. Ten at the very most. Now, Saarthax is convinced it's just him and Bernold who survived, but he can't be sure. Oh, and you may have guessed Bernold is my retainer / follower. :)

    A slight bump. It would be good to get this going this week. jmucchiello and Kahlesnestor both seem complete Shauyri has all the mechanics done, just waiting for a more detailed background. And I have to make sure her magic item has an effect in the game. Herosmith14 all looks good in the OOC thread, just need to copy it into the character thread JustinCase I think has the character in his head

    I've added a bit to the background in post 1 I'm looking at a human Noble wizard or sorcerer...still mulling the exact options. A possible hook for this could be that your father/uncle/whatever was a vassal to Baron Bedegar. After Bedegar was killed and Lord Saxton took power, you father was accused of treason/heresy (real or not) and put to death, his lands taken and given to Lord Saxton's lackeys. You've been away and are returning to find the truth. @Herosmith14 Perhaps the resistance has heard of the happenings in Bedegar and suspect Ajax is moving to take tighter control. You've been sent to investigate. @KahlessNestor This lady The actual character sheet doesn't seem to be there anymore, but the background works easily. She could even be from Graveford originally.

    Hey @rgoodbb This is the second post I've noted where it seems like you haven't made much of an effort to really contribute. Attempts at comedy are cool, but I'd prefer the thread not be derailed. I am getting a lot of value from the more meaningful posts in this thread. Subtle, nonstandard, clever items go a long way in my game. I've seen a number of thoughts interspersed between posts without breaking the chain of ideas. That's seems a far more reasonable route to take. Thanks. Oh, and for the record, Herosmith14, the Summon Cubes were great. I'm combining your idea with information at this link: http://mathematicscentre.com/taskcentre/103fourc.htm To create a magic item that transforms into a portal to one of 15 different dungeons depending on which shape it is fashioned into before it is set down and the command word spoken. I might simplify to only eight basic formations if you don't have to set the finished construct down before activation.

    I could be completely off with this, but I imagine it's the same reason DDB doesn't give release dates; setbacks happen, plans change, etc. They're quiet with their roadmap so as to not get crucified if they don't make a deadline. I suppose you could be right but I'd assume that most gamers fall into a few categories of purchasers, most Id think would be forgiving if something was cancelled or pushed back. Compared to 2E thru 4E, 5E is releasing substatially less product, not counting DMs Guild, so maybe they know something marketing wise as to why their so tight lipped. I dont watch game live streams or pod casts, or twitter/FB, so perhaps I miss alot of info.

    Eh, I wouldn't say GS and BH are problematic, just... different to other 5e stuff. I run a taldorei game with both, and while the GS tends to have a high DPR and crit rate, that is more because he managed to minmax his way up therr(via elven accuracy and my bad choice of granting immediate pepperbox access), and BH is just very risk/reward. It's more a danger danger for the player (you'll understand if up to date in critrole) than the DM. I say if they wanna play one, let em, so long as they understand that it is a bit more if a tricky class.Yeah - I have never seen "burn health to feed normal powers" work for PCs in any system due to the downside of it going badly being so severe - ie getting caught dead. Its doubly true if its random burns. It can potentially be made to work if the burns are for defenses - trading one safety for another- but the "burn survivability for offense" is too tempting a lure to tempt fate too often.     So, I've just been thinking about multiclassing stuff, and found something hat might be interesting to discuss. There are a handful of abilities (smite(both divine and eldritch), primeval awareness, combat wild shape...) that require you to spend a spell slot to use them. However, they are not technically spells. This calls into question, can they bypass the "no spell" abilities? The rules are pretty clear that, while these abilities are magical, they are not spells. "Determining whether a game feature is magical is straightforward. Ask yourself these questions about the feature: ...Is it fueled by the use of spell slots?"

    I'll be frank. I am an absolute sucker for redemption archs. This thread has kind of inspired me to have a possibility for all devils to actually have good in their hearts. Before this, I had kind of been focusing on Zariel, because, even if she is supplanted in later generations, I'll probably keep he canonically the ruler of Avernus. The lore on her made her sound like someone cast out from their home order for doing what she believed to be right, and now is still trying to protect her old family and countless other innocents from within the ranks of a darker power.     Honestly, I think atropal would work as an Undying pact better than GOO, though it makes some sense for AD. Don't know what to do for big brawler Tarasque, though. The problem is Atropals were never mortal, they are undead still born Empyreans and the biggest baddest one Atropus is said in MTOFs to be an Elder Evil that can grant Great Old One Pacts. For Tarrassque cultists I'd still use Great Old one pact, as its the most versitile pact, its Elder Evils, Ancient Primordials, and other very Alien beings that don't fit into other pacts, even Ubtao of Chult.

    So, I haven't minded a lot of the small people art in this addition so far, and I think the pictures of the scientist and the adventurers are fine (heck, without context I might have thought they were humans or elves), but that first pick is just... ouch. owowowowow. I can see why people are up in arms about proportions on that one at least. The proportions are definitely off, but when it comes to art getting the technical stuff correct is only a priority for some styles. This was clearly a deliberate choice, intended to evoke a certain feeling, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say those people who are up in arms about it are blowing the issue out of proportion.

    I'm actually not familiar with older DND, so what actually are the Hippo-Folk? They're called the Giff. They were one of the iconic races of the AD&D setting of Spelljammer, despite not actually being playable until the supplement "The Complete Spacefarer's Handbook" came out. The Giff are a race of spacefaring mercenaries, who literally believe that their race's purpose in life is to take orders. Despite this, they're fairly friendly beings, just boisterous and strong. They look goofy with their love of ostentatious military costumes, but they're actually very skilled, disciplined and deadly. Also, they LOVE guns. It's their most defining trait; they love firearms and gunpowder weaponry, to the point you can literally pay them in gunpowder. Everyone else thinks they're crazy because, amongst the other flaws of firearms, the Phlogiston - Spelljammer's version of hyperspace - is inherently flammable, so any time you pull the trigger on a gun, you basically blow yourself up with a powerful fireball...

The Hippo-folk in question are the Giff (not to be confused with the Gith), a race of spacefaring hippo-people from the 2e Spelljammer campaign setting. They love battle and their favorite weapons are guns, typically a blunderbuss-type weapon. Opinions vary greatly as to Giff; some think they're way too goofy, others think they're cool.

    Well, a fighter gets Second Wind to head for d10+Class level once per short rest, so let's say 3d10+3xclass level for a full day. Uh, second wind is just 1d10 plus level, the d10 doesn't add up. If you have have two short rest you can use Second Wind up to three times that day. At d10+level each time, that totals 3d10 + 3*level as your possible for an average day (assuming the DMG recommended two short rests). I convert everything into daily so that I have an apples-to-apples way to compare a 1/short rest feature and a 4/long rest that lasts for an entire combat feature. Make sense now? It's not saying the Second Wind gets more d10s for a single use, just a total of what happens with multiple uses over an adventuring day.
