What had gone before
The party, comprised of:
Evarus and Armigil, two Dorns
Keelosh, a Dworg
Morthik, a Dwarf
Gac, a Gnome
had all found themselves on board an Elven ship via different routes, but all had in common the desire to fight the Izrador, the Shadow in the North in some fashion, whether they had formulated the goal as such in their minds. The basic decision that led each of them here however was a desire to join a resistence movement against the evil forces that control the central plains of Eredane, and besiege the elves in their great forest of Erethor and the dwarves in their Kaladrun mountain strongholds. This ship, "Eredane's Hope" had linked up with many others in the so called "Ghost Raft", a conglomoration of Vessels on "The Sea of Pelluria". There the party met each other and interacted with the crew of the ship and other members of the resistence. They were introduced to Eliael, an Erunsil (snow elf) who introduced the party to their first mission, a journey on the Plains of Erenhead to the edge of the southern Kaladruns where a Halfling tribe was creating problems for the dwarves in a Clanhold in the region. The halfling riders, attempting to protect some of the local settlements of their settled kin, often led Orcs and goblins to the edge of the mountains on a long chase, often fighting them but just as often retreating away once the settlements were safe. This led the orcs into conflict with the dwarves.
The goal of the 'free peoples of Eredane' working together, rather than seperately was put forth, and the party accepted the journey, which seemed to be as much a way for them to be trained and introduced to some of the ways of the resistence than to actually help in this specific mission. Eliael suggested however that some of the party might have specific expertise that could be of help.
Not long into their time on board the ship, Gac revealed to the rest that one of the elves, Caranev, who appeared to have a friendship or possibly more with Eliael, had featured in a dream he had just before the gnome arrived on the ship. It appeared that in the dream, Caranev led an orc fleet to the "Ghost Raft" where "Eredane's Hope" was captured. Coincidentally enough, Caranev was nowhere to be found a day before the mission was to begin. Taking heed, even if not believing that Caranev could have betrayed her, Eliael soon discovered that a large orc fleet was clumsily attempting to encircle the "Ghost Raft" before moving in. The vessels scattered.
It appeared that the ship would make it through the closing ring without serious trouble, until happening upon another vessel that had been captured by the orcs. It was on fire, and when a man was spotted in the water, swimming towards the ship, Keelosh threw himself overboard in an attempt to reach him. This was not according to the plans of Eliael, and the elves were forced to officially blow their cover. Their way of dealing with it was to sink the Orc vessel with fireballs and other spells, sending both the minions of Izrador, and their innocent captives to the bottom of the sea. The man swimming, named Danyd, was rescued however, and it was discovered that he had an item of interest to be taken to a small village a short way off the path the group would take.
The party was asked if they would prefer to stay with the main group the whole way, or split off to assist Danyd on his trip. They were told that they could then meet up at the Halfling camp afterwards. The group decided to take the side trip once they reached the point to split up, and were told that Arunae, one of the elves (a Caransil, wood elf), would go with them to help.
Once on land, the group the party was with said farewell to a separate group led by Rhiann, an elven woman with pure black eyes who at times seemed to take on a separate personality when speaking. While the party had little interaction with her and her group (save the battle with the Orc ship in which she was one of the primary spellcasters), they did learn that her group was on its way to dwarven territory in the northern Kaladrun mountains.
On the way, the party ran into a dead animal with carrion birds that seemed strangely hesitant to feed on the carcass. When they got closer, beetle like bugs flew from the carcass and attacked the party. No damage was caused even though one excreted a substance onto Keelosh. The substance caused a mild itching but nothing further. Later on the journey, Arunae tested the willing members who were interested to see if they had any magical aptitude. Only Evarus was able to pass the test, which involved creating a flicker in an otherwise normal appearing stone.
The party was told they would meet with a group of reisistence fighters at an outcropping of rock in the middle of the plains, where information and supplies would be exchanged. When they arrived, the party discovered two felinoid creatures prowling the outcropping. They didn't come out to attack the party, but they weren't frightened off as animals often would be by a relatively large group of humanoids, leading some of the party to recommend investigating carefully.
We left off at this point, with the party deciding how to proceed... (The next post will be a bit more 'scene specific').
