  • A Gargoyle's base land speed 30 feet. It also has a glide speed of 180 feet.

  • Racial Hit Dice: A gargoyle begins with monstrous humanoid levels based on the size of the gargoyle. Small 2d8, Medium 3D8 and Large 4D8. The gargoyle has a base attack bonus equal to the number of hit dice it has. The gargoyle has good base save bonuses for its Ref and Will and a poor base save bonus for its Fort.
  • Racial Skills: The garoyle gains a number of skill points based on the following formula: (2 + Intelligence modifier, min 1) x (HD+3). Its class skills are Climb, Hide, Intimidate, Jump, Listen, Move Silently, Spot. The gargoyle has a +2 racial bonus on Climb, Listen and Spot checks. Against a background of stone the gargoyle has a +8 racial bonus on its Hide checks. Gargoyles never need rope to climb a surface. Their talons are long and sharp enough to allow them the ability to climb any surface.
  • Racial Feats: The gargoyles' monstrous humanoid lets it start gameplay with a number of feats equal to its ECL. Also, see Accelerated Progression below.
  • Natural Armor Bonus: Gargoyles have a natural Armor bonus equal to the amount of racial hit dice it has.
  • Damage Reduction (Ex): The gargoyle has DR 10/magic. While in Stone Sleep the gargoyle has DR 20/Bludgeoning & Magic
  • Freeze (Ex): A gargoyle can hold itself still that it appears to be a statue. Observers must succeed at an opposed Spot check with the DC equal to 15 + the garoyles' Hide check.
  • Stone Sleep (Ex): Like most other living creatures, gargoyles require sleep. Sleep is vital to healing the body and refreshing the mind. The gargoyle is capable of sleeping like any other mortal creature, but when the gargoyle enters Stone Sleep, she heals at double the normal rate. The gargoyle can choose how long it wants to remain in Stone Sleep, although the gargoyle cannot sleep for less than eight hours. In heavily urbanized areas, gargoyles will choose to awaken at dusk, as the they prefer the nightlife as it the perfect cover for their activities.
  • Tooth & Claw (Ex): Garoyles are ferocious combatants. They gain Improved Natural Attack twice (once for bite and once for claw) as a bonus feat. When the make a claw attack they deal damage based as if they are one size category larger, due to Improved Natural Attack. See page 296, Table 5-1 in the Monster Manual.
  • Automtic Languages: Common. Bonus Languages: Any (other than secret languages such as Druidic).
  • Favored Class: Any.
  • LA: +3
  • ECL: Small +5, Medium +6, Large +7

Strontium originally decorated the facade of a temple of Wee Jas in the Great Free City of Greyhawk. Eventually, the background radiation of magic from both priests and communicants reached such a fever pitch that it animated Strontium and a few of his "siblings." Ultimately, Strontium's superiors in the Gargoyle pecking order decided that they did not care for his lawful behavior at all. Strontium proved to be little more than a wet blanket at more than one gargoyle party/orgy of destruction. So they finally got tired of Strontium and have now shipped him off to spend his days lurking on the eaves of the new cathedral in the thorp of Kraymor on the west bank of the Sheldomar River in the Kingdom of Keoland. It is a testament to his lawful nature that he still reveres Wee Jas, in recognition of his personal origin, even after his mistreatment at the claws and fangs of his fellow gargoyles there, and, indeed, after the utter contempt in which he is held by Wee Jas, which is totally mutual.

Strontium is not particularly devoted to Wee Jas, and, in general, is disgusted by the whole idea of "worship." When he is angry, he often utters curses of Wee Jas, and asks questions like, "Why are you torturing me again, Lady of Pain, didn't I fulfill your totally unreasonable requirements adequately?" But Strontium is always very careful to toe the line when it comes to the actual required services to Wee Jas. Grudgingly, perhaps, but he does it, nonetheless. For Her part, Wee Jas enjoys getting the prescribed religious service from someone who hates her, because it makes her feel even more powerful than she really is. It's as if Wee Jas says, "Look at that miserable gargoyle! Ha! Even Heironeous doesn't have such a great influence over mortals who hate him!" And, in return, Wee Jas answers Strontium's prayers for spells, as is expected of her, but she will never stir one little finger beyond that minimum. To be sure, if, indeed, Strontium does have a soul, and if Wee Jas is ever in a position to exercise power over that soul directly, then Strontium will be on the express train to eternal torment, of that there is no doubt. But, being the gargoyle that he is, Strontium would just say, "Well, I can't say no one warned me. I lived my life in the way that I chose. If there are consequences for that, so be it.
