Hi guys,
The latest supplement for the Babylon 5 RPG is released this week - Free Mars, a 128 page sourcebook covering the history, culture and troubles the Mars Colony has faced throughout the years.
Written by Lizard, Free Mars kicks off with an overview of the planet, including major locations and plenty of maps. From Olympus Mons to Valles Marineris and IPX's interests, you will be provided with set locations that flesh out this world. This leads on to the Martian Chronicle which charts the history of the Red Planet. Here you can learn why the Shadows visited Mars, why Mariner Valley looks as it does and what other aliens were doing here. Mankind finally reaches the world with the Mariner, Mars, Viking and other probes before finally setting foot on Mars and beginning to construct a colony.
The next chapter, Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed looks at the Martians themselves, now four generations removed from Earthers. Their typical characteristics are detailed, along with hints on how to use the various character classes on Mars. This leads in to Martian Life which shows just what life is like on Mars, from the Food Riots and the Clark Years to Politics, Life in the Domes and the alien presence on the the world. The tunnels below the Domes are detailed, along with media (including ISN-Mars), business and major industries.
The Bringer of War looks at the strife that Mars has continually suffered, laying out the scene for campaigns revolving around the fight for Martian independence and the resistance (from the Ares League and Martian Independence Movement to Mars Liberation Now and Free Mars). Rules and guidelines are given for handling propaganda, terrorism, cell structures and finding then joining the resistance. Players can set up their own organsations, and full rules have been provided for doing so, handling recruitment, events, notoriety, infiltration and espionage. Just watch out for the telepaths.
Places to See fleshes out Mars, making it a living, breathing place in your games. Maps are provided for the entire planet, from the entire red landscape down to individual domes and buildings. Locations such as MarsDome One, new Vegas, Syria Planum and the transport tubes connecting them are featured, along with smaller domes and military bases. Though mostly barren, the two moons, Phobos and Deimos are also covered.
Vehicles and Equipment takes a look at the unique technology developed for life on Mars. This includes Long Haulers, Dust Buggies and Rock Cycles, all accompanied with artwork.
Finally, the book winds up with the Campaigning chapter, giving the GM all the information he needs to run scenarios on Mars, from quick visits, tie-ins to galactic events or resistance/counter-resistance/Martian Mafia/tunnel rat campaigns.
Free Mars is priced at $24.95 and will be appearing in your local stores and book shops this week.
