somewhat disappointing is the initial releases from what is/was primarily(?) an RPG company are a CCG and a board game, with nothing regarding supplementing/replacing the aging RPG lines.

I think you aren't really aware of what FFG make: they make some of the top-rated boardgames and LCGs in the world. FFG originally published European comics in the US, but became successful with the release of the Twilight Imperium boardgame in 1997.

RPGs came later.

(They're possibly the 5th-biggest boardgame producer in the world).

Cheers!

Quick to judge, you should not. Mysterious are the ways of the Force.

Could be awesome. Could suck raw eggs. Time will tell.
"You must spread some Experience Points around before giving it to Azgulor again."

I, for one, am hoping for a tailor-made system rather than a conversion of an existing one.

My question is who is Numbers 1-4? I'm thinking they may actually be number 2 or 3 at this point (as Hasbro has bought up all the rest of the really big competition against them and now owns those who may be 1-3 at least).

I wouldn't be surprised if that were true.

Days of Wonders, significant though they are, don't have as many games.
Rio Grande Games might be up there.
Mayfair Games likewise.
Z-Man Games is rising.
GMT Games are doing nicely in the wargame section and are branching into strategy games.

Do we count German companies?

Cheers!

Wow. If it's anything like WHFRPG 3ed it will be ... terrible.

I've been unimpressed with everything I've played from FF, mostly stemming from balance issues with Doom and Arkham Horror.
