Hybrid classes (4e playtest)

I wonder if it could be abused for more than just a "different way to multiclass". For example, I think something similar to racial classes could be added, for what 3E had as "High LA" races. Basically, you don't get the full features of your class for getting more racial features, to play something exotic, like a Mind Flayer or even a fully fledged Dragon.

I have never created a 4.0E multi-class character, nor are there in any of the games I've played in.

How does multi-classing work, and how will it be different from a hybrid-class?

Multi-classing uses feats that give you features from the class. With multi-classing, you are sill a member of your primary class and just your primary class. With hybrid classing you smash the two watered-down classes together and select powers from both of the classes power list. You are considered a member of both classes.

With multi-classing, how and when do yo make the chance from one class to another?

How does it deal with feats and powers?

How are they addressing the "more options = more chance to break the game" possibility?
Judging from the article, they expect us to break the hybrid class and report back to them. It's probably the smartest way to playtest the concept. Notably, hybrid classes aren't legal in the RPGA and the Character Builder won't support them until they get published in PHB3.

WotC Trevor posted here that the Char Builder june update will have the Hybrid playtest in it, since they've received a lot of feedback on it.
