The best school of Magic

I am trying to come up with a list of what wizards would say to convince other wizards that there school of magic is the best.

This stems from one of my characters Diogonies who was an apprentice to Gabal, a famed evocationist. Diogonies was a enchanter with evocation as his forbidden school, so the two wizards often got into some heated debates as diogonies was mentored.

Diogonies: "Gabal watch this. Yeah you!"(walks up to a peseant and cast a spell) "Now hop on on leg....bark like a dog" ( the peseant obeys and diogonies ends his spell.) " See... your silly little school can't do that!"

Gabal: ( hand begisn to burn with magic flame) "Peasent, Obey my commands or I'll fireball your a$$, now hope on one leg...."

Gabal: "Your school seeks to dominate mens will, mine seeks to end it"

Diogonies: The only thing more fun then burning down a small village, is making the villagers burn it down themselves"

What would other wizards say in regards to their school of magic and the weakness of others.

Michael, you misspelled your own character's name. Yikes.

*grin*

Only egotistical mages need to convince others that their magic is the best. These are the same mages who reveal their villainous plans before killing the heroes, or who actually fight people as opposed to outwitting them.

The fire mage Katrina would simply defend evocations by saying, "They're so much more fun."

Anyway, we all know Illusion is the best school of magic. You get all the power, with none of the risk.

Divination. Without a doubt.

Why? Because if you know what and when other people are:
Doing
Thinking
Planning
Plotting
Preparing
Wishing
Willing
and Working,

then all the other spell schools actually become effective because you can now choose the right spell for the right moment.

That, and you can make a buck on the side telling people's futures. :)

yeah, if you believe the novels Divination is the all powerful school.

from a tactical stand point... one only wonder point of view... evocation is pretty good.

but so is conjuration.

for a protect myself and forget the rest of the party abjuration is king

Nothing but Confusion and crushing despair at your last game? Too much hideous laughter from the feeblemind on the couch next to you? A touch of idiocy maybe in his voice? The overwhelming demand to fall into deep slumber after another night of rolling the dice? No more sympathy with those old and boring concepts? A strong antipathy likely? Maybe even a hint of insanity?
No, I'll tell ya. It's your neverending quest for the perfect character?
Here's a suggestion: Dominate the Game with your heroism, play an Enchanter!

really, the best school of magic is the one you be casting from at the time... a specialist wizard is doomed to be lacking the proper spell at some point.

The strongest wizard would ensure that other wizards believed any but the truly best school (his own) was the best to distract them from learning the best magic. (Or am I just too use to paranoid play?)

Actually, the strongest school to specialize in is none of them. A generalist wizard may not cast as many spells per day, but he has access to them all. This question, in his mind, is properly asked, "Which school of magic is so logically head and shoulders above the others that it is worth forgoing access to two other schools for all time in one's reckless pursuit of power?" No, not even the big three schools are worth such future coinage. Someday, you will need access to a necromancy, illusion, or enchantment spell. Specialists cannot ever read the spells off a scroll. That loss of power supercedes any slim gain to be had from specialization.

"Necromancy is the one True Path to power." - Xagunder MacFaileas.

Why bother all those poor peasants with hopping up and down on one foot or burning villages. Just animate their dead relatives and have them do it. With the Dark Arts comes power over other beings, the fear of the unwashed masses (I mean, really, if you are a 3rd-level commoner, aren't you more likely to hide your wealth and run to the hills with your family when a Necromancer comes to town than you are when a Diviner is coming?), and the promise of out living all the other mages who argue over which school is the best.

Plus, when dining at the princess' birthday ball dressed as a foppish dandy, you can tell people you are a necromancer, and get the greatest laugh of all the guests attempting to impress the king. ;)

Hogwart's!

Really, there's no arguement that you can come up with. Each specialist wizard is like a fetishist. Their specialization is their kink and nothing really is going to change that in their mind. It's like people argueing which color is the best to have as their favorite.

To me, an epic level Illusionist would have to be the worst nightmare overall.

Sure an evoker can nuke you from space, a conjurer or necromancer can summon hordes to fight you, an enchanter can rip your party apart from the inside out. But a master illusionist can do all of that at the same time.
