The Past

When the previews of D20 Modern where released, and the mini-games began appearing in Polyhedron, we started a campaign that is sort of a cross between Stargate, Quantum Leap and Sliders. We liked the way that the class abilities in the previews where organised into talent trees, so started working on the same thing for the D&D classes, well before D20 Modern was released.
The campaign when the D20 Modern rules where released, but wanted to be able to use the D&D classes under D20 Modern rules - hence the continuation of the conversion work. With talent trees for both Base and Archaic classes, it seamed only natural to go back and do the same thing to the Advanced classes from the D20 Modern rulebook - I was very disappointed that the writers had come up with such a clever way to clean un class progression, then stopped without implementing it fully.
That, and some welcome insight from the Wotc and Enworld D20 Modern message boards, lead to the first release of Classically Modern, as a free 80 page PDF, in early in 2003.
