The Scarlet Dissolutionist

Of the myriad cults dedicated to the worship of the Scarlet Witch, few are as obscure as the sectarian cult known as the scarlet dissolutionists. Seeking truth in the unraveling of magic and chance, the dissolutionist learns to coerce, and ultimately control the errosion of fate. This control is very crude, and often strikes the scarlet dissolutionist's allies as well as well as their foes, one reason why those who take this path are primarily loners.

Members of this group are drawn almost exclusively from the ranks of hexblades, a sinister group known for their mastery of unluck - most visibly displayed in the hex curse ability. Many hexblades who aspire to this class frequently multiclass, often choosing the rogue class, or other paths to enhance their ability to slip in and out of warded areas unseen. A few multiclassed fighters and rangers may take up the mantle of the scarlet dissolutionist as well, desirous of another, mysterious, ace up their sleeve.

NPC scarlet dissolutionists are loners, even shunning each other's company. While rarely villains, their ruthless manners and obsessive natures very rarely make them allies. This makes encounters with such beings quick, brief, and potentially deadly.

Class Features
All of the following are features of the scarlet dissolutionist class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Scarlet dissolutionists gain no additional weapon or armor proficiencies.

Hexburst (Su): Once per day as a free action, the scarlet dissolutionist can unleash a curse upon a foe. The target must be visible to the scarlet dissolutionist and within 60 feet. All creatures within a five-foot burst centered on the target take a -2 penalty on attack rolls, saves, skill checks, ability checks, and damage rolls for one hour thereafter. A successful Willpower save (DC 10 + scarlet dissolutionist's class level + the dissolutionist's Cha modifier) negates this effect.
Every 3 levels after the first, the scarlet dissolutionist may use this ability one addiitonal time per day, as indicated on the table below. Multiple hexbursts dont stack, and any foe that successfuly resists the effect cannot be affected again for 24 hours.
At 6th level, the burst effect has a 10-foot radius.
If the character has the Hexblade's Curse ability, that ability is supplanted by this ability, with the number of uses per day of the Hexblade's Curse ability added to the daily limit for the Hexburst ability.

Impervious Ego (Su): The scarlet dissolutionist is able to subconsciously subvert chance through sheer force of will, granting an insight bonus on all saves equal to his Charisma modifier (minimum +1).

Death's Consort (Su): As the scarlet dissolutionist gains in power, the blessing of Wee Jas smiles upon him. He gains a +2 bonus on saving throws versus necromantic spells and effects. Every three levels after the third, this bonus increases by +2, as shown on the table below.

Dispel Magic (Sp): Once per day, the scarlet dissolutionist can use Dispel Magic as a spell-like ability. This effect has a caster level equal to the dissolutionist's class level.

Greater Hexburst (Su): The penalty granted by the Hexburst ability is increased to -4.

Red Queen's Blessing (Su): The field of unluck grows stronger around the scarlet dissolutionist, increasing the odds of those aorund him meeting an untimely fate. All critical hit confirmation rolls made on targets within 20 feet of the dissolutionist gain a +4 luck bonus to hit.

Avoid Fate (Sp): Once per day, the scarlet dissolutionist can use Dimension Door as a spell-like ability. This effect has a caster level equal to the dissolutionist's class level.

Luck's Ruin (Su): Once per day, as a standard action, the scarlet dissolutionist can generate an intense field of unluck that hampers everyone around him. For ten rounds, all creatures within 20 feet of the dissolutionist roll 2d20 whenever they make an attack roll, saving throw, ability check, or skill check, they must roll 2d20 and tke the worse result. A successful Willpower save (DC 20 + the dissolutionist's Cha modifier) negates this effect.

Critiques, comments? I designed this prestige class for a character (a tiefling hexblade, unsurpisingly) in my Age of Worms campaign, and am still unsure of whether or not it's balanced. Oh, and please pardon the clunky grammar and legalese - this is still a rough draft :)

sounds dangerous if you use it right............i like it

Thanks!

None of the prestige classes in the supplements we use really calls out to the hexblade, so the player and i brainstormed a few ideas and this is what happens . . however, since this is the first time i've seen a hexblade in play, i was leery of just eyeballing its balance . . with the dearth of "Are you out of your mind?!?!" sorts of replies, i'm guessing this old boy is well within the confines of the power curve . .
