I know this boarders on getting my own character banned, but I had to put this info up. I got this for the banned character Duvessa, whom got from a friend that made a point to copy the banning down.

they banned more people and my friend cause they seriously thougth she was me

Magi says, "(( Hello. It would seem
that you are accessing the chat from an
IP address that belongs to someone who
has been banned for offenses. ))".
captain blade_ says, "This is Lyf's
player and someone hacked into the
orignal Captain blade".
captain blade_ says, "I had this problem
before, and I told people not to play like
they are the banned person with my
characters".
Magi says, "(( It is the IP address that
was banned, not the account. An account
has no affect or influence upon IP which
the server is accessed from. ))".
captain blade_ says, "Hmm".
captain blade_ says, "Cause I know that
I've had my players banned from being
mistaken".
captain blade_ says, "And I don't think
I've done anything against the CoC or
rules, I'm really good at sticking to the
rules".
Magi says, "(( The infractions resulting
in the ban, were done so through access
via this IP address. While this may or
may not have been a result of your
actions, setting rules must be enforced
against violations. But even so, you may
apply for an appeal after a 6month time
period. ))".
captain blade_ says, "Can I tell everyone
in here I'm getting banned first".
captain blade_ says, "And what did I do
wrong to deserve to get banned?".
Magi says, "(( The infractions resulting
in the ban, were offenses against the Site
rules and Code of Conduct. ))".
captain blade_ says, "But what did I do?
I haven't done anything bad on here".
Magi says, "(( Are you aware of any
which in which someone else could be
using this IP address? ))".
captain blade_ says, "No".
Magi says, "(( Again, while perhaps
this is the case, due to the fact that the
Infractions did originate from this banned
IP, the ban must be upheld. Upon logging
off, you will be unable to log in. If you
have any questions or concerns feel free
to contact us at isrpmagi@gmail.com. ))".
captain blade_ says, "But I don't
understand of why I'm being banned when
clearly the characters I play haven't done
anything wrong".
Magi says, "(( Is there anyone else
who uses the same computer for RP? ))".
captain blade_ says, "No".
captain blade_ says, "Why do you have
to ban me? I seriously done nothing
wrong, and that wouldn't be nice or fair to
ban me".
Magi says, "(( The IP Address by
which you have accessed the chat, is
used by a repeated offender to commit
infractions against the site rules and
CoC.. therefore the IP has been banned.
If you need more information, and have
questions please contact the administrato
r at ISRPMagi@gmail.com ))".
captain blade_ says, "This is not fair,
you guys keep going after the girl who
was banned when she doesn't come on
here. You've turned it into some twisted
witch hunt for her".
captain blade_ says, "It's not right, and
I'll speak my mind I don't like how random
people are being banned because you all
think we are the banned person".
captain blade_ says, "If this type of
treatment to people, and this "witch hunt"
for Duvessa, Yes I know the player she is
my best friend, continues I'll bring this to
the plublic, and start a petition".
Magi says, "(( The rules are in place to
keep the site friendly and welcome for
RP. This account has been used for
repeated offenses and setting violations.
It is the IP that is banned, and that ban
needs to be upheld. The IP ban is a ban
against that, IP addresses. This banis
being placed to prevent future offenses
until we get more information on how this
may have happened. ))".
captain blade_ says, "This is messed up
I'm leaving, but I'm letting everyone know
how messed up this has become, and
screwed up you guys are with this "witch
hunt"".
Magi says, "(( Does Duvessa ever
come to your house, by chance? ))".
captain blade_ says, "No she's busy
with her family her dad does have cancer,
and she is to busy helping them out".
Magi says, "(( has she ever come by
your house, in the past? ))".
captain blade_ says, "No".
captain blade_ says, "She comes by
sure, but we don't get on the computer I
go to her house to ride her horses and
hang out".
captain blade_ says, "I'm tired I'm
leaving if I can't be able to play my
charactes I'm putting this convo onto a
thread for everyone to see".
captain blade_ says, "Of just how crazy
and out of control this has become".

Now yes, the moderator made a point to point out the situation, but evaded the question of what this person did to get banned. And after reading this I've come to the conclusion that banning the IP address is the main problem about the whole banning thing, cause it seems to do more harm then good. If this IP address banning is not better reviewed, fixed, or better, not used anymore, it could result in a increase of players leaving ISRP, and going to other chatrooms like TheDenRP. I don't mean to sound like I'm wanting the death of ISRP, my chatroom experience started on ISRP and I'd hate to totally leave that which I've come to enjoy, but if there is nothing done to better the banning situation, perhapes then the ISRP is gonna fade into obscurity.

As per emails and the chat above, it was explained that the IP address (not the individual) is banned because it is one a repeat offender has used to continue offending on our web site. Therefore for the protection of the community the IP address has been blocked to prevent re-offense. In this case later investigation also pointed that the screen name was one used by the offender.

It has been explained numerous times on these boards that we do not engage in public discussion of individual bannings. Inconvenience this may be causing you is unfortunate but as you can see the Magi on duty was trying get information to see if they could help you. If you don't talk to us we can't help you.

Any further discussion on the individual case should go over email or all you will receive is advice to take it to email.

The policy of IP banning repeat offenders and IPs that they use to continue offending after banning is not up for debate. It is a simple necessity for all online communities in order to allow the people who want to follow the rules to enjoy the community as it is offered without interferance from those who have no respect for the rest of the community.

The email address to contact in regards to specific bannings is: isrpmagi@gmail.com

And that's all that needs to be said on this matter.

I do want to add a little. The use of IP addresses to identify people who have been banned and who aren't allowed back on site, had been ISRP policy for many, many years. If newcomers (or oldtimers) weren't aware of that, they didn't read the Code of Conduct closely enough. People have accused us of a witchhunt, trying to guess if other characters are played by the banned person. In fact, using the IP address is the opposite. It's totally impartial. If we have records of someone banned trying to come back on site using a particular address, then that address will be banned. If a character comes on site that isn't using that address and isn't an obvious copy of a banned character, and doesn't identify themselves otherwise as a banned player, they won't be banned. It's that simple.

If people who weren't aware of the use of IP addresses want to leave, that's their privilege and perogative, but they'll find many others here are quite used to it and have no problem living with it.

This thread has been closed as being too specific about a particular banning. The other thread has been re-opened for continued discussion, but please keep it (1) on topic, and (2) as general as possible.
