I have the following so far:

Sewer Cleaning. Some arachnid and rat infestations in the sewers.

Bounty Hunters sought to round up rough individuals. Apply at the Justice Center for more details.

Retrieve an ancient tome from an underground temple

Cleaning the basement of an old Inn

Local monk farmers are having problems with their members and harvests being destroyed.

I need some more "Help Wanted" ideas that can suit a group of 7 3rd level adventurers

Don't forget caravan gaurd duty!
I once had high level PCs go look for gaurd duty because they were close to leveling.

Not everything needs to be a hook:
A student looking for a tutor.
A master with a position open.
Expert adventures needed to testify at local hearing.
A local cook offers 10 gp a piece for exotic recipes and will by exotic spices.

Or try mysterious:

"Contract work available, contact "Joe" to arrange interview" Maybe a noble/rich family needs a family item retrieved or a member found.

A hand scrawled note on the bottom of the page saying: "Please, help me find my mommy"

just taking aminute to suckle at the same teat as kugar....

i wrote up a pretty cool adventure for 2-3 lvl adventurers to go get honey from a giant bee nest for the prissy cook of a local chef, adding in the factor of limited time(a special feast is close) and a small cache of magical assistance.

also, someone needed to round up a group of prize horses that have taken loose(released? by who?) getting them from the wild herd they have taken up with can lead to several mini-adventures.

my favorite, a rather wealthy local merchant wants to go on a hunt. he wants a big deer rack/dire wolf fur/lion mane/rust monster feeler/boar tusk and is a wimpus, so he needs an escort past all the nasties in the wild, and someone to track it(and maybe pin it while he shoots it)

I get a lot of mine from the news (modified for D&D)

Snake-head fish must be exterminated! Adventures needed to remove and kill these pest from ponds, rivers and lakes!

Make the roads safe! Looking for volunteers to map roads and create road signs. This will include possible dangers and hazards in the area. Apply at the office of...

"Well, Zed, looks like yer gonna have a bumper crop o' monks this year."

"Yup, I reckon so. 'Course, ye always lose a few while they're still green to the dungeons an' late frosts an' such."

"Aye. Well, I best go tend t'my barbarian patch."

Oh, I'm such a smartass...

LOL!

How 'bout:

-Courtesans' Guild seeks armed guards to be paid by love or money.
-Local tavern seeks bouncers.
-Local authority seeks posse to rid outskirts of brigands.
-Artist seeks models.

- Product placement / testing "Use John Doe's axes for all your fine head-cleaving needs!"

- "Send more paramedics". Note that requests assistance cleaning out some pesky goblins in some caves near farmer bob's house. Please apply at farmer bob's house. (DM Note: Farmer bob is a zombie and the cleric who raised him is looking for more zombie volunteers. Farmer bob, incidentally, just wants to eat brains.)

- Personals

The farmers are monks?

Wow. Don't criticize the freshness of the produce or you might get a Stunning Fist to the face! :)

By the way, this is a great thread. I've already stolen all the ideas here.

Just so it's not a total highjack...

One of the most fun -- diplomatic -- adventures I ever sent my players on started when a man knocked on their door and told them he was from a brothel. He asked them to retrieve a token of affection for him that he had foolishly given to a nobleman's wife. The group had to avoid the husband and covertly get the item back (a gilded pair of opera glasses) before the husband could find out about the affair...

Another one -- again on the slightly diplomatic side.

A family is looking for their daughter. She disappeared after a fancy party, and was seen being assisted from the building by a pair of strapping young men. She was lolling between them as if she had consumed a few too many drinks.

The two young men are actually Aranea who have kidnapped the daughter for ransom. After letting them search for a bit -- investigation style -- have the family receive the ransom note.

This one quickly turns from diplomatically trying to locate a lost girl into a combat mission once the nature of the threat becomes known. (Besides, after meeting Aranea, the whole party was far more paranoid in the future about other people... heh)

Here's another one:

"Persons required to provide a discreet security presence at the Duke's Grand Ball. Apply at the castle to Commander Smith, head of the house guard. Generous wages." Once they arrive for an interview, it becomes clear that the players are required to go 'incognito' as courtiers (small/decorative weapons only, no armour) and to top things off, the commander is very tight-lipped as to what sort of disturbance he is expecting. The pay, whilst good, is conditional on things being handled quietly and without a scene. The actual trouble could be anything from political assassination of the aging Duke's heir through attempted mass killing of the city's nobility to doppleganger infestation, depending on the party's capabilities and the political circumstances of the area.

Yours,
Altin
