ELH, ECL oddities

Just noticed that the ECLs listed in the ELH seem a bit... off?

Just how is it possible for creatures to have an ECL lower than their hitdie?

Psuedonatural Troll, Ha-Naga, Paragon Mind Flayer, Gloom, Worm that walks, Gibbering Orb, Demilich, and Old Prismatic Dragon.

Elder Titan, ECL 35.
Effectively a 29th level wizard or a 29th level cleric. And Knowledge of 3 epic spells. Nevermind that they also have 70 hitdice.

Umm, so, ECL 35?

So, err, are they simply lacking the HitDie components of ECL? Or is the penalty to skills that immense?

Basically (and this is probably not much help)....ECLs do not equal HD and are no more alike than CR and EL.

WotC employees have read some of UK's material and decided that it was a good idea to slow down the level increase when compared to power increase.

UK says that a Level 40 character is ECL 30, and so on.

The Elder Titan, by UK's rules, would be ECL 53, though, so they're still a bit off . . .

I'd say, pick up Asgard 6, and then go through and do all ECLs yourself. Seriously. WotC don't know nothing when it comes to CR and ECL, even when the answers are right there.

Yeah, but U_K's system is incompatible with the power curve of the ELH and can't handle D&Dg.

Surely he's the man - but his numbers are only useful if you use his entire system.
