You back up in the tunnel until you find a suitable spot. Rinya sets up the trap and takes her position in the back while Khairi and Richard take the point.

You wait a while for the roots to approach. Eventually, the mindless things slither right into the flames. As they do, you see the purple poison at the tips of their tentacle-like appendages sizzle and congeal into a hard, black coating. (Roots1's attacks are no longer poisonous.)

The second set of roots pushes forward, but it cannot seem to integrate with the first set, so the result is a writhing mass, caught in the back of the tunnel.

The first roots begin to burn and char. (They will take 1d6 fire damage each round on their turn.) They... (...actions after you all.)

Richard's first attack misjudges the heat of the fire, he might hit, but it's not pretty... he begins to hack at the roots with more vigor, striking true yet still not that effectively =-(
He keeps striking at the roots, hacking in the hopes that the group can recover their comrades body... hacking in the hopes that the group can press on... and destroy whoever.. whatever is responsible for this!!
