Correct me if I'm mistaken... this spell prohibits others from entering within 10. ft of the caster (no save), and the barrier is broken if the caster attacks in melee. Does the shell prevent either the caster or the caster's enemies from attacking with ranged attacks or spells?

The field is being forced upon in this situation instead of the shield forcing upon the living creature. Thus doesn't trigger the collapse clause, and would in fact preventing the living projectile from entering the area. Also on a strict interpretation, this spell is farely useless in any area with significant plant life.
