Anyone know how comfortable (or uncomfortable) it is to wear bullet proof-vests, flak jackets, etc? Would you impose any negatives for wearing a bullet proof-vest under a overcoat for most of a day (if weather permits)? How obvious is it? Any other odd advantages or disadvantages that might not be obvious?

Comfort is completely based on the quality of the vest in question as well as the rating. For example, most class I vests are significantly more comfortable to wear than a class II vest.
Even the difference between a class II and a class IIa vest is noticeable... the IIa is usually more comfortable for extended wear, but a character will often realise the difference the moment he faces a 9mm (which will penetrate a class IIa vest) instead of a .45 ACP (which won't penetrate).
