A greasy-looking, chubby man comes into the bar in an obviously frantic state, as the tussled hair on his balding head and the disheveled look of his expensive clothing attests. He walks right up to the bar, orders four shots from the bartender and finishes the first two in less than five seconds of receiving them. "Oh my... I'm ruined... ruined I say! Ok, near ruined. I heard that this might be the place to hire some quick and ready mercenaries willing to risk life and limb for a bit of coin. Can you point me towards some rough-looking sorts that now where to stick the pointy end of a blade?" He asks this nervously as he takes out a handkerchief and wipes sweat from his forehead.

Filling shot glass after shot glass, the grizzled bartender watches the would be employer drink like a fish. A fish out of water, but still a fish. "Dat 'pends on how much yus fookin' pay," Grog explains. Gesturing out to the inn denizens, he continues, "jus tell 'em how much, an te ones dat'll work for it, will say." The big orc-blooded veteran leans forward, pushing the man's drinks to him, "if ya manage to get thru all dis sheet, dat is."

Aelspeth Noromiel 2.png A young elf woman enters through the front and pauses immediately inside the tavern door. She squints as her eyes adjust, then removes her spectacles and gently wipes them with the hem of her green velvet traveling cloak. She frowns, watching the dust from the road smear around her lenses. She tucks a blonde lock behind her right ear and sets the soiled glasses atop her head. The elf manages no more than a step toward the bar before a spider monkey, heretofore peeking over her shoulder from the sling across her back, bolts upward, grabs her eyeglasses, and drops to the floor. A choked sound escapes the woman's throat and she lunges but misses the golden haired miscreant as he bounds across the worn planks underfoot.

"Darwin!" must be the monkey's name, judging from the exasperated call heard across the common room. Undeterred, the monkey rushes to the feet of the troubled man to whom Qalabash and Yosephus speak. The frantic fellow exclaims wordlessly when Darwin scampers up his leg. Maintaining momentum, Darwin hops onto the bar and turns to look directly into that man's eyes. The monkey calmly holds the elf woman's spectacles up before his own eyes with one hand while reaching with the other for one of the panicked patron's shot glasses. "Don't you dare!" comes another sharp call from the woman who is now moving forward, eyes squinting and brows deeply furrowed.

Darwin quaffs one shot of whiskey, then another, before his master grabs him by the back of his neck and wrenches him up from the bar. The monkey chatters noisily, making nigh-humanoid gestures that are easily interpreted as more than rude. It would seem, after a fashion, that Darwin has run out of steam. The woman sets him on her shoulder and turns to the greasy nobleman. "I must apologize, ser. The creature has a thirst. Please accept this coin as recompense." Turning to the men on her other side, she says, "Allow me to cover your next round, as well. I am Aelspeth Noromiel of Sumbru. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintances."

Broken from her curious reverie by by yet another odd turn of events, a young woman turns to watch a spider monkey down two shots. Stepping up to observe this curious creature, light washes over her, making her features fully visible for the first time. Although unusually short for either half-bloods or full-elves, her long ears make her heritage obvious. However, her round face and softer features argue for significant amounts of human blood. Although her movement has a certain amount of grace to it, she has a wide nose and tufts of hair growing from her ears in an unsightly manner. Her hair is dark and unruly, and frames a face defined by a pair of vibrant amber eyes, which presently focus on the little monkey as she wordlessly studies it.

Looking up and seeing Yosephus, she gives him a knowing nod before continuing her observations, seemingly unconcerned about much else at the moment.

The promise of a good tale by Qalabash is swiftly brought to end by the entrance of the man who never met a sugar-encrusted dolly-whopper he didn't like. Francis wipes the remnants of his inundation from his lips. He makes a grand show of drawing his shiny new shortsword, making several calamitous swipes at an imaginary opponent, and approaches the cherubim-like fellow. The halfling bows so low that his unkempt mess of hair touches the floor. He raises himself up to his tallest, and boldly proclaims, "Hunter of the wild, slayer of dragons, feller of the unfellable... it is I, Francis John III, prince of all halflings, at your service." One must be blind to ignore the twinkle in his eye.
