Hexographer has been coming a long way, I'd like to think...

The major new features are:
  • A child map feature (aka sub-maps.) This allows you to select an area of your map (or even the entire map) and "drill down." A new map is created with the hexes prepopulated with terrain based on the parent map. You can make the sub maps 4 hexes across for each hex in the original/parent map, 5:1, 6:1, 10:1, 12:1, 20:1, 25:1 or 30:1. Note: 1. Lines are not increased in thickness. So a coastline/sea fill would need to be redone. (But see the new "shapes" feature for a better way to do seas/oceans/lakes.) This feature is only in the pro version; go to the "Options" menu and select "Make Child Map" to give it a try.
  • You can right click any area with a feature and add "feature decorations" that let you put a star, triangle or some text at any clock position around the edges of the hex. This is useful for noting if a star system has a naval base, starship repair facilities, etc; the friedliness/lawfulness of a town or city; the attack/defense/hit points of a military unit; etc.
  • One can now draw polygons and ovals. This makes drawing seas, oceans and lakes much easier than the old approach.
  • There are a few new map items for a different style of mountain ranges, forests, hills, etc that better match the 1st edition World Of Greyhawk poster map style.

This mini tutorial shows off the last two points to create a classic World of Greyhawk style hex map (a portion is shown below): Inkwell Ideas » Making 1st Edition World of Greyhawk Style Maps in Hexographer

And of course there are a number of other small fixes and minor improvements as well.
