    Proposal: House Boraga

The majority of the detail for this proposal came from IVV. With our new LPF forum I think our incomplete/unapproved/in progress ideas should percolate here and go on the wiki with rules information and approved ideas after they've been accepted. In working to make the wiki the go-to source for rules and world info I'd like to quickly hammer this out.

House Boraga is one of the ruling families of Venza. House Boraga maintains a fortress-like manse in the south of the city Roses di Sanguigno. Inside the compound, called Palazzo Boraga, is the Zeire Gate. This gate leads to the Zeire Desert, a vast, empty expanse of sand dunes, rock, and salt flats west of Heth.

House Boraga's two major sources of influence in the city. First, they are the is as patrons of the Miners and Quarriers Guild. In this role, they provide both sand (used both by the Glassworkers Guild for glassmaking and by the Masons Guild for mortar and cement) and salt for food preservation to the general public. Because of the family's expertise in mining the Zeire Desert, they also maintain a number of smaller quarries along the cliffs near Venza. Over the years, the constant need for food preservation and glass has made House Boraga very rich.

Second, they have received the city's concession as the Keepers of Penitence: they are the jailers for Venza. They maintain a large dungeon out in the Zeire Desert, where the worst examples of Venza society are held, far from good and honest people.

Rumors swirl that the Zeire Desert quarries and mines are worked by prisoners from the Tower of Chains, acquired through some under the table agreement and held in the fortress that houses the other end of the Zeire Gate and that the Guild workers out in the desert are less chosen for their skill in mining, and more for their ruthless capability to manage forced labor.

Grand Dame Ludmilla Boraga is the matron and head of House Boraga. She has been married four times, and, by virtue of outliving her husbands, has managed to maintain her grip on the family's fortunes. She has given birth to six healthy children, all at least young adults, who are presently vying to be named the next head of the House.

House Boraga, of Roses di Sanguigno, and House Gabbianno, of Roses D'Avorio, are rivals and it is rumored that the Grand Dame herself is the architect of House Gabbianno's recent reversal of fortunes.

Obviously, I've struck through the parts that I think should change and added new bits in red. The change to the Zeire desert is so that the gate goes to a specific desert and provides a link and method of long-distance travel for jkason's submitted adventure. Please post ideas, discussion, votes. Thanks.

I like this addition as you've written it, GE. Some good information to flesh out the world, good plot hooks - especially for politically themed adventures.

I like the changes, and it's time Boraga got out for use. YES.

Just curious - did this get approval (3 Yes + GlassEye's assumed)? I ask b/c it doesn't seem to have been updated on the wiki.

Looks like a pass to me. Between GlassEye being the one to propose it and Mowgli saying it looked good and then three obvious YES's. I have updated the page and moved it to The World of E'n section.

I'm using Cicci Boraga and Abbandando Boraga in Escort Service, as two of the house's six heirs. (I've got some serious NPC wiki work to do after this adventure.)

I'd also like to put dibs on Tessio and Clemenza as characters for another adventure I've got percolating at the moment. I was going to try and limit my usage of the Boragas, but I'm really liking these guys and neither Abbandando nor Cicci really has the right personality for this second adventure.

    . Abbandando Boraga ...... Cicci Boraga ......
