Fredrik Leifland, an engineering student at Lund University in Sweden, has developed a vein scanning technique in his native country that allows stores and coffee shops to take payments using the palm of the hand.

Nice; I hope it spreads. My car and my house should just 'know me' by this point, to get in and out of them, to use services, etc. There will be privacy concerns but I'd bet that the convenience of , say, walking into a store, grabbing a loaf of bread, and walking through a scanner on the way out to auto-pay for it will offset that.
