earth based magic class?

I've been looking on the internet for a while but i can;t really find any magic classes or prestige classes that use the earth as magic, like I have found different classes that use fire lightning, cold, ice etc for it but no earth classes at all. What i mean by earth classes are magic users that use earth, rocks, crystals, metal etc from the earth as a way of combat and non combat. I tried geomancer but it's not what i am looking for

anyone know any earth classes?

Pathfinder elemental school specialist wizard pops into mind immediately, its from the Advanced Player's Guide as a variant of the base wizard class.

Aren't wu jen from Complete Arcane (3.5) and Oriental Adventures (3.0) elemental specialists? I'm not that familiar with them though. I'm sure the shugenja from Rokugan have elemental school specializations. In the setting they are divine spontaneous casters, but also the only caster class.

They don't really have anything especial 'earthy', mostly they simply have to learn a majority of earth-oriented spells, although in Rokugan also spells with a 'philosophical' tie to an element are legit. Couple this with the general inability to learn spells of the opposite element, and you can see that an (obligatory) specialization is actually more of a limitation than a boon :) You did get free Spell Focus and the minor ability to 'sense' your element, but nothing really special.

But all in all, this is actually good news, because those Shugenjas do feel quite a lot 'elemental' just because they know (and use) a lot more spells of their chosen elements than any other spell. And this actually means you don't really need any unique class or subclass to create an 'earth' spellcaster! All you need is the following:

- play a Wizard
- pick spells that have a direct 'earthy' nature (Stoneskin, Wall of Stone, Passwall, Earthquake...)
- look also for spells that have an indirect or 'philosophical' tie, e.g. spells that grant endurance, strength, physical protection, slow down enemies...
- refluff all other spells! Magic Missile could take the shape of flying rocks, Mage Armor could make a layer of stone appear around your body etc.
- as for the subclass, if nothing is good enough, take the least inappropriate (maybe Transmutation)

While not a full blown mage, what about the Stonelord PrC in Complete Warrior? They get some spell like abilities with earth flavor. For instance, they can use mud to create a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds and can summon earth elementals.

i'm guessing you mean d02 versions. but if you mean any edition you may want to try looking at the witch doctor class. it is an NPC class but you could easily make your own version. do a race like the derro as an available. tell the referee you what you are doing and build it with approval. including spell list and class as you level.

"Bad Grogg! Don't bring up terrible prestige classes."

B-but ... I liked my stonelord. He was fun.... :(

[sblock=I am the terror that flaps in the night. I am the pin that bursts your bubble.]
Special entry requirement: Must eat 1000 gp of powdered gemstone. Must carry a gemstone of that type with you in order to access your powers.

Great, so I pay in order to be a Stonelord, and I can lose my powers if I misplace my trinket.

Abilities:

Earth's Blood: heal a number of hit points equal to 1d8 + stonelord class level once per day.

Something tells me you'll be needing more healing than that.

Stone Power: A list of powers you can chose from. Let's see...

Earthgrip : Once per day, use hold monster on any target touching the ground. Does not work if the opponent is airborne or waterborne.

Obvious problems are obvious.

Earth Magic (Su): Once per day, a spell cast by a stonelord with this ability (assuming she can cast spells) is considered maximized as if prepared with the Maximize Spell feat, although the spell's level is unaffected. The spell's level cannot be higher than the class level of the stonelord. Using this ability is a free action.

Free Maximize spell is good. But it's 1/day, the spell level has to be equal to or lower than your stonelord level, which means by the time this comes into play, it's not going to do much.

Earth's Endurance (Sp): Once per day, a stonelord with this ability grants herself a boost to her Constitution score as if she were affected by a bear's endurance spell for 1 hour.

Not enough times per day, not long enough a duration.

Earth's Strength (Sp): Once per day, a stonelord with this ability grants herself a boost to her Strength score as if she were affected by a bull's strength spell for 1 hour.

See above.

Earth Power: Once per day, all melee attacks made in a single round gain a +2 bonus on the attack roll and deal an extra 2d6 points of damage on a successful hit.

This is pretty much nothing.

Earth Shadows (Su): Once per day per class level, a stonelord with this ability can create a figment of a Medium earth elemental that appears in a flanking position adjacent to the stonelord's opponent for 1 round. This ability allows the stonelord to make flanking attacks (+2 to hit, can make a sneak attack if such ability is available) against that opponent during that round. Using this ability is a free action.

Finally, something that can have multiple uses! It's a minor ability, but could be useful.

Gravity: Once per day, affect others with a slow effect, as the spell.

The wizard does it better.

Stoneskin: Once per day, buff yourself with the stoneskin spell. You must still provide the material component as if she were actually casting the spell.

Come on... at least make it for free.

Summon Earth Elemental (Sp): Once per day, a stone lord with this ability can summon an earth elemental as if she had cast a summon monster spell. The size of the summoned earth elemental depends on the stonelord's class level, as follows: 1st—3rd, Small; 4th—6th, Medium; 7th—9th, Large; 10th, Huge.

I mean... it's not terrible, aside from being once per day.

Stone Shape : Once per day, a stonelord of 3rd level or higher can use a stone shape effect.

???

Meld into Stone (Sp): Once per day per class level, a stonelord of 5th level or higher can use a meld into stone effect (caster level equal to the stonelord's class level).

Not terribly useful.

Stone Tell: Cast stone tell once a day if you are 7th level or higher.

Not terribly useful either.

Earthquake: Once per day, a stonelord of 9th level or higher can use an earthquake effect.

Not the most impressive 9th level spell.

You would be better off making a dwarf gish or cleric and actually casting spells. [/sblock]

I feel it's pointless for us to debate the merits of Stonelord when we don't know if that's even close to what balmz was looking for.

Also, Dandu, I feel that you and I will probably never see eye to eye on Stonelords. Mechanically they won't measure up to a CoDzilla. But I played a Stonelord all the way through level 10 and I had a great time doing so. And if that's Bad-Wrong-Fun then I'd rather not be right.
