D&D 5E [IC] hafrogman's Hoard of the Dragon Queen

Forged Fury

First Post
Freed of an opponent, Morgan sought to further clear the way for the refugees. Charging at the closest kobold, she called to the guards, "Open the sally gate! These are your people! The Black Tide will take care of the rest!"

Morgan set her flail to spinning, the head moving in preparation for an underhand blow. As she neared her target, she took one massive swing and smashed the creature with an uppercut, sending it flying.

Hunter drops the cultist blocking the gates, the two guards close in on the last cultist and put him down as well. Morgan's charge is too much for the kobolds who are clearly looking to escape at this point. With a clear path, the family and peasants dash through the safety of the keep. From the walls comes an order to reform and close up ranks.

OOC: Gonna break combat here. Technically Carad goes before the kobolds have a chance to flee, so he can kill one more if he wishes, but their morale is broken and they flee down the hill into the night, except for three slumbering quietly on the path up to the gates.

OOC: Does it look like we would have time to disarm the three sleeping kobolds and take them prisoner? Morgan's lawful goodness would push her to try to take them captive if possible.

Panting at the exertion, Morgan felt the thrill of surviving another combat rush through her body. Glancing back as the kobolds retreated, she was pleased to see the refugees gain the keep without further harm. Taking in the field of battle, she noted the three sleeping kobolds and looked around to see if capturing them would be possible.

"Good job, everyone. Well done!"

OOC: They've only been out for a few rounds, so by yourself it might be rough to get all three. But if the party gets involved, sure. The guards are primarily concerned with securing the townsfolk, the keep and getting ready to close the gates. They will wait for you, though.

Looking to the remnants of the Black Tide, Morgan said, "Let's take these three captive. While I doubt it, they may have an interesting story to tell. Better than leaving them out here to attack us later."

Hearing Hunter's call, Carad peered out and saw that the way into the keep was clear. "Come on, the way is clear!" he called out to the family and waved them past him. Seeing the battle tide turning, Carad nocked his bow and fired into the back of one of the fleeing kobolds.

Not sure if Carad gets advantage to attack the kobold with his *attempted* hiding or the sneak attack damage so putting it down anyway.

Turning to Morgan, Carad nodded in assent and moved swiftly to the still slumbering kobolds, briskly tying them up and assisting to carry them into the keep.

With the immediate urgency of the battle over, Carad reflected over the recent happenings, "First the dragon attack, now raiders ransacking a town seemingly at random. Are these connected?"

"Let's hope not, or we're badly outmatched..." Morgan replied to the eladrin. As the rest of the Black Tide formed up and assisted with the prisoners, she said to Jeni "It would probably be best to change back into an elf. You can help vouch for us. By the way, great job out there."

Hunter scampers quickly to gather his fallen javelin and with a final glance into the gloom he trotts back to his commander.

"Well commander, I don't think they will make the mistake of thinking we are on their side again." he offers with a lopsided grin.

Carad gave a quick smile in reply to Hunter's quip, but turned serious again as he scanned the chaos of the town, many of the buildings still pouring out smoke or flames. "We might need to use that bluff again before the night is over."

Zoning out briefly, Carad reported, "Scree doesn't see any of the raiders coming back just yet, but we should make haste and head for the safety of the keep. At the least, we might get a better sense of what is happening."

Venn stood by, still as possible. His eyes slowly lost their faint glow and all that was left was an aged man grasping his staff. His hands almost as knotted as the wood. As his compatriots began to gather the prisoners and discuss the siege Venn still had eyes only for the sky. Somewhere above them, hidden by the smoke a massive creature moved. Venn could feel it. Something horrible, and ancient. Something worth discovering.

Only when the others began to move towards did Venn follow, more of a shadow than a soldier.
