I'd say Vulcans, but they ignore species that aren't capable of FTL travel. The Asgard from the Stargate verse would be another preference.

I take it back. I'd prefer if we were contact (invaded) by the alien empire, the Roxolani, in Harry Turtledove's short story "The Road Not Taken." We'd whup 'em in an afternoon, take their FTL tech, and rule the universe.

I don't know. Part of me would want a peaceful and cooperative race to visit us. However, would that be good for them? Are we mature enough as a race to really be welcomed into the greater Galactic community? So yeah Vulcans.

The other part wants some visitors that simple conquer us and roll us into their empire. I find that Humans do best when forced to change. I am not entirely saying we fight them off and win, but more just get our act together. Obviously these would not be a people looking to enslave us, just rule more territory. Kind of like the Galactic government in Rick and Morty.
