AD&D 2.5 idea: Using the concept of THAC0 for everything

I like the way Frank Mentzer and Skip Williams handle combat attacks in pre-3e D&D. In their games, you roll a d20 and subtract it from your THAC0, giving you the AC hit hit. For example, if you THAC0 is 15 and you roll a 19, you have hit AC-4.

What if everything was expressed that way? In other words, ability rolls, NWPs, etc. The DM rates every difficulty on a scale of 10 (super easy) to -10 (super duper heroic). Ability rolls would be described in a similar fashion to Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea, such as an ability score of 15 having a 10+ ability roll (or whatever). You then roll a d20 and subtract it from your score.

The reason I'm asking for your thoughts is because I'm thinking of this for an "AD&D 2.5" game I'm creating. I am not looking for a "why don't you play another game" suggestion. This whole thing is just tossing ideas around. Is it crazy? Cool? Stupid? Interesting? Would you give it a try?

Thanks!
