[Humor?] our home and GITP

When I was running Tiamat and we had new players drop in 'to check this D&D thing out', we had fewer people STAY when the characters were higher-level.
Most of the new players looked confused about what-all they could do (too many options; which ones are good/bad?) and when they could do it.
Indeed. I have often seen two contradictory posts on internet forums.

The first is "Levelling up is too slow. I level my player's characters every session."

The second is "I do not like high-level play. It is too confusing, and I do not know or really understand my character or their abilities."

The only thing this appeals to, for me, is my love of irony.

I certainly don't mind high level play, but I like to work my way up to it. I've played in games in which I was dropped into a high level charter, cold, and just plain had no idea of the character's power synergy. When you work your way up, you just naturally know what to do, in what situation.
