This a collection of the various notables for my campaign world. My play by post players, please remember to keep player and character knowledge separate if you read this. ;)

I hope to have a full character sheet up for J'jon by the end of the week.

Further general information about the campaign world is available here: Of small gods and elementals - The World of Low'verok

Notables in Low'verok

J'jon - male Negatai LE Wiz 18. A mysterious figure, but a powerful one, J'jon is a highly placed member of the Mage's Guild, as well as the Guildmaster of the Gravecrawlers Guild in the city of Redhaven (Gravecrawlers = morticians). Necromancy isn't illegal in Low'verok, as the executed bodies of lawbreakers are given to necromancers so that they can be reanimated for public service.

He resides in a large mansion in the fashionable district of Redhaven. It is made of dark gray granite and accented with pillars of silver-veined black marble. In several places it is carved with death scenes, some from religious texts, some from legends, myths, and tales, and some from a very twisted imagination.

J'jon is tall and well muscled. His skin is pitch black, as is his hair and eyes. He favors flowing robe of black silk with conservative silver jewelry. He often uses illusions to change his appearance so he can walk the city streets unremarked. He is in charge of undead animation for no less than five lords, as well as Albon. His current apprentice is a void genasi named Miraleena, who has a confident and haughty attitude. She acts as his secretary, and in order to even get close to J'jon, you have to get through her.

J'jon protects his house with hefty magical enhancements built into the very stones, as well as added magical traps and undead guardians. J'jon despises the stink of zombies, and does not tolerate them, so his guardians are either clean skeletons or incorporeal. Unknown to most, J'jon has managed to develop arcane versions of create undead and create greater undead, and has many powerful undead at his command. He also has several powerful magic items that enhance his ability to control large amounts of undead. He also has several constructs on his property (including a necrophidious, a lead skeleton, and several magically animated bone constructs that could be mistaken for undead skeletons).

He presents to the outside world a face of that of a concerned citizen and respectable member of the community. While rumors fly about his conduct behind closed doors, most warn outsides to not cross J'jon.

Keylaran Fairweather - female human CN Wiz 10/Acid Lord 10. Keylaran was a powerful adventurer in her youth, and ran with a group of adventurers, a rather famous lot known as the Company of the Gold Flame, that now hold several powerful positions in Low'verok. She currently resides in the small city of Deepwater as a simple alchemist. In her youth she was known as Killraven the Corroder, a flamboyant name suited for a feared adventurer. She is now tired of the constant danger and death of adventuring and has settled in the small city due to the proximity of superior alchemical ingredients in the forests nearby.

She goes by the title of Master Alchemist, and is an important member of the Brotherhood of Alchemy. Few in the town know she is a wizard, but most know she is well versed in magical matters. She is a member of the council in the city, and is consulted on magical problems. Her alchemy lab is new, and one of the best for hundreds of miles (not including any in Albon). As befitting a former adventurer, her home is stuffed with books, scrolls, strange magical items, constructs, weapons, and other things. Her lab is her public area, and is the most normal of her abnormal home. Anyone coming inside the house proper with any knowledge of adventuring would recognize her home as the abode of an old hand in the craft.

Keylaran has aged remarkably well, as mages tend to do. Her face is mostly unlined, and her bright red hair is undimmed. She is of medium height, with long curly red hair. She keeps it tied back in a tail at the nape of her neck. She tends to wear long robes in sturdy wool, usually in a dark gray, but stained various colors with occasional small holes eaten in them from acid. She is usually seen wearing black dragonskin gloves (excellent for handling acid) and boots. She tends to wear a set of crystal lenses in a leather frame while working with chemicals, and keeps them pushed back on her head when not using them. She rarely wears visible jewelry, but does own several powerful magic items.

Keylaran has a notoriously bad temper and usually greets all knocks on her door by flinging it open (catching more than one person in the face) and demanding "What?" She's fairly loyal and reasonable polite to those who have proven their worth, and she has taken at least one fledgling adventuring group under her wing (though they are still in the dark as to her true profession).

She enjoys making people who have irked her squirm. Because she is immune to acid, she will occasionally invite someone to have a drink, then casually flavor hers with acid. This tactic has gotten her a reputation for being somewhat intimidating.

Kel'karak of Andeluvay - Male human LN Ftr 10/Brb2/Grim 5. A former member of the Company of the Gold Flame, Kel'karak is the captain of King Xargo's bodyguards. He is a grim-faced individual who takes his job with the utmost seriousness.

He is tall for a human, and obviously comes from northern stock, having blue eyes and blonde hair. His gaze is often described as pitiless. He is scarred across both his forehead and left cheek. While on duty he wears full plate made from a rare alloy, appearing deep blue and imprinted with Kind Xargo's personal crest. He wields a greataxe in battle, though he has most bodyguards train with sword and dagger.

It is said that his presence alone has deterred more assassination attempts on the king than his axe. It was during his time with the Company of the Gold Flame that he single-handedly slew a black dragon after treachery nearly deprived him of his comrades. While off duty he wears armor made from the hide of the dragon. He also carries a raven on his shoulder wherever he goes. The raven is known as Kel's Eye by the public, as whatever the raven sees, Kel'karak knows. The raven is bound to him as a familiar due to his possession of a powerful magic ring. The bird has apparently died three times, but never seems to stay down for long.

Lissandra, Daughter of the Sun - female half-elf NG cleric 9/Radient Servant of Pelor 9 (Dragon #283). Lissandra is the leader of the head temple of Pelor in Andeluvay, and as such, wields a great deal of power, both religious and secular.

Lissandra is a short half-elf with a nearly floor-length cascade of golden blonde hair and brilliant green eyes. She has a friendly smile and an easy manner. She is most often spotted in simple cream-colored robes, like acolytes wear, with the addition of a large, ancient, gold holy symbol of Pelor as a symbol of her office. Her robes for high ceremonies, however, are just as elaborate as one could hope for.

Despite her history of being an adventurer (she was a member of the Company of the Gold Flame), she seems quite content in managing the day-to-day affairs of her temple. She spends a great deal of time in the poor quarters, healing people both magically and mundanely. She is well loved and respected by many, particularly the poor.

Lissandra unfortunately does not deal with nobles too well, coming from common stock herself. While she is kind and eloquent, she despises the excesses of the rich and has trouble masking that. If it weren't for the wishes of Pelor himself, Lissandra might have stripped the temple of all the gold decorations in order to give them to the poor. As it is, the temple gives out the most alms of all temples, and more than any Son or Daughter of the Sun has done in over fifty years, which does not endear her to nobles. Many of her suggestions for government policy about taxing the rich more than the poor (all heads of the various churches have a seat on the king's council) have been subtly or overtly blocked by the noble lords as a result, even if the changes are reasonable and necessary.

Tegran Fireaxe - male dwarf N Rng 10/Foe (aberration) Hunter 7 (Masters of the Wild). Tegran was a member of the Company of Gold Flame in order to avenge the death of his brother. During his years adventuring, he established many contacts, particularly in the Firespine Mountains and around the Sea of Song. He enjoyed the riches he was able to obtain adventuring, and after the Company disbanded, opened a trading company in the town of Quiet Dawn, just outside of Albon.

Tegran is a dark-haired dwarf, with his brown hair just beginning to grow gray. He wears his beard in over two dozen braids, which are decorated with bone, scale, tooth, and nail beads from his various kills. He wears leather armor constantly, decorated neatly with scales and bits of skin from dozens of different beasts. He has a mountain lion called Swiftclaw as an animal companion, and she is a fixture of Quiet Dawn. She often follows children when they go out of the town looking for berries, mushrooms, or firewood.

Tegran is a hunter without peer, and holds special grudges against aberrations, corrupted elementals, and demons. Any such creatures that threaten his clan, profits, or town (in that order), earn a swift and painful death. His prowess on the hunt is enough for most bandits to give caravans bearing the stamp of Tegran Fireaxe a wide berth.

He is the leader of the Trader's Guild in Quiet Dawn, and an extremely wealthy man. His Guildhall is staffed with other dwarves from the Fireaxe clan, all of whom help him keep his Guild in top form. He handles a goodly portion of the trade from Silver Citadel, and his opinion holds great weight with the Head Guildmaster in Albon. In a year or two, Tegran will probably be in that position himself.

Jelnak the Betrayer, "The Black Butterfly" - male halfling NE rogue 18. Jelnak is a former member of the Company of the Gold Flame, and a regular rogue. His flashes of amorality while he was with the Company have flowered into full-blown selfishness and an "I don't care" attitude that have put him at the forefront of a ring of smugglers, information brokers, and assassins. The contacts of an adventurer of Jelnak's expertise are many and varied. These allowed him to first rise in rank, then take over three separate crime rings, then combine them into his own little empire.

Jelnak runs all three out of the island of Scuttlecove (Dungeon #95), one hundred miles off shore of the port city of Gajin in the Endless Sea. A place of pirates and extreme depravity, no one gives what he does a second thought. Jelnak's operations are more successful than most, attracting the attention of rivals. However, Jelnak has more than one assassin personally bonded to him through chains of loyalty, blackmail, or addiction. While he has had many assassination attempts, his "pet" assassins have thwarted all of them.

Jelnak is three feet tall, with black hair worn long, purple eyes, and an elaborate tattoo of a black butterfly on his face. Due to magical cosmetics, he can subsume the butterfly and reveal it at will. He's known in some circles simply as "The Black Butterfly," as the name Jelnak is rarely used outside of Scuttlecove.

He's a master of disguise, a vicious killer, and utterly amoral. He cares only about himself, and profit is only second to survival. Those thinking to threaten his profits in order to get him to bend are in for a surprise. Dealt with carefully, his organization can uncover almost any information you want, kill anyone you want, or strong-arm anyone you want, for the right price.

His identity as "The Betrayer" is not an expression of his betrayals, but rather what will happen to those who betray him. He makes a point of learning at least one secret about each of his flunkies, often by way of drunken or drugged confession. Those that betray him have their secrets betrayed in turn, though Jelnak never reveals secrets of those that keep his trust.

Despite Jelnak's lifestyle of a person that doesn't need anyone, he still harbors a certain lingering loyalty to his former adventuring company. Few are aware of his former identity as Vel (since he usually was disguised when dealing with underworld contacts), so no one bats an eyelash when he declares operations against certain individuals anathema.

His reasons are sound to his flunkies - Keylaran Fairweather's trade route is of yet too small to be of any interest, Tegran Fireaxe is too skilled of a hunter to invite retribution, Lissandra is a powerful priestess with access to divination magic, and Kel'karak stands too close to the king for comfort.

Jelnak acquired or had made during his adventuring days several magic items that both conceal his alignment, and his presence from divination magic, which is why Lissandra has yet to find him. He keeps a ring that lets him teleport without error and another that plane shifts to a prepared location in the Astral Plane on him at all times. Of all things, he would dearly hate being confined or captured, and has spent a great deal of effort to see that that does not happen.

Jenar Galforth, the Grand Forbidder - male Positai LG cleric of Heironeous 10/Forbiddance of the Divine 10. Jenar is a powerful, high-placed member of the church of Heironeous, though he is not its leader. That honor falls to Orshallan (male human LG Ari 2/cleric of Heironeous 9), The High Righteousness of the Invincible. Jenar wields potent power granted directly from his god, but spends more time praying, contemplating the matters of the divine, than tending to the flock. His wrath and skill in channeling the power of his god is considerable, but he must be practically roused from religious contemplation to do his duty.

His aloof attitude toward all things material, and his relative disinterest in all but the direst threats to the world made him poor material for high-ranking priesthood, but excellent as a weapon of the church. He is considered blessed and quite special. There are others like him (others with levels in the Forbiddance of the Divine prestige class), but none are as far along the path as he is.

Jenar looks the part of a specially blessed individual, with hair of bright yellow, eyes of gold, skin of glowing yellow-white, and noble features and bearing. It is rare that he leaves the inner sanctum of the High Temple of Heironeous in Andeluvay, but when the priests bid him to go, it is always for the vilest sorts of evil. Jenar always travels in a large party that includes no less than five bodyguards, both paladins and fighters with levels in the Forbidden Warrior prestige class, one Divine Oracle, and one Sacred Exorcist (both from Defenders of the Faith), as well as three senior clerics of Heironeous and a dozen acolytes. Often the party is much larger, including church-sponsored adventuring groups, additional clerics, paladins, and Forbidden Warriors, as well as more of the Forbidders themselves.

This grand procession is known as the Scourge of Evil, or the Bolt of Heironeous. Whenever the Bolt moves, great trouble is afoot in the land. Thus it is seen with both fear and relief; fear of whatever they are facing, and relief that they will surely triumph. As the Bolt of Heironeous pass through towns, children and adults gather round and line the streets. Mothers take their babies to be blessed by the priests, and children try to touch the horses or boots of the Forbidders as they ride by on their pure white horses.

Brightfire, Rainbow's Delight - female radiance genasi CG Brd 5/Cleric of Sune 2. Brightfire is one of the relatively rare radiance genasi, being touched by a plane that is nothing but the most beautiful colors in the multiverse. She delights in bringing the colors that she grew up in into the world of Low'verok. Through intense research and the help of some friendly wizards, Brightfire had learned to transform the very notes she sings into brilliant pieces of solid light that linger in the air for months or weeks after she has passed.

Brightfire is an exceptional beauty, having skin of deep magenta and hair of brilliant blue. She wears harmonizing embroidered and beaded clothes in an almost gypsy fashion (vest, shirt, long skirt). She is quite free with her dispersion of beauty, seeing it as her mission in life to spread beauty as far and as wide as possible, both for those that might otherwise not get too see it, and for the glory of Sune.

She is also quite free with her carnal charms as well, earning her the other title of "Rainbow's Lover." She is somewhat flighty, though not malicious when she does this. She often picks neglected youths or lonely men to enhance their reputations after she is gone. It is feared by her former lovers that she may be torn to pieces by a hoard of jealous wives and girlfriends one day, as she rarely considers the ramifications of her actions overly much.

The Company of the Gold Flame - This former adventuring company was known to have taken on corrupted elementals, demons, devil, mad wizards, and fierce warlords. The party was mostly driven by the lure of riches, and rarely made much pretense to the contrary. However, one of their leaders was a priestess of Pelor, which kept the Company from accepting morally corrupt jobs. The Company was together for more than a dozen years, almost a record amongst the Adventurer's Guild. Their reputation remains very high in the Guild books.

The Company dispersed over five years ago, and none of the five members are still using their old names and former Company affiliation openly. The Company consisted of:

*Killraven the Corroder - the acid mage
*Jel'ivara Lightsister - priestess of Pelor
*Ret'cor the Slayer - dwarven ranger, hunter of aberrations
*Zavok, the Hound of Ill Omen - universally feared fighter
*Vel of Deepest Shadow - halfling thief of uncanny silence and stealth

These were the adventuring names of Keylaran Fairweather, Lissandra, Daughter of the Son, Tegran Fireaxe, Kel'karak of Andeluvay, and Jelnak the Betrayer.

The members of the Company had many differences that led to their dispersal. Jel'ivara was originally a country girl, and had suffered under the excesses of the rich many times in her youth. She had never been entirely comfortable with the goal of money that the other Company members strived for. The majority of her share always went to a local temple or a starving beggar. She was also the Company's only moral compass, and grew weary of keeping her comrades on the right side.

Killraven was tired of the killing that went so often with adventuring, and wished to settle down to a simple life where no one knew who she was. Zavok was also finished with the constant death. Children were so scared of him that they would run screaming at the sight of him. He desired to go into a noble profession that would allow others to view him as useful instead of dangerous.

Ret'cor had originally left his clan, the Fireaxe, in order to avenge his brother's death against all aberrations. His debt had been settled many times over, and he once again felt worthy of the name of his ancestors. He desired to return to his family and use the information he had gained while adventuring to make more wealth for himself.

Vel was a pretty case. The halfling had always been the greediest and the shadiest of the lot. He had often taken out foes by very underhanded means, included poison. While Zavok and Ret'cor were no mean death-dealers themselves, Vel had a dispassionate disinterest in his killing, as opposed to Ret'cor's hatred or Zavok's blood fury. Killing for Vel was extermination, as opposed to killing for a cause. Though he could haggle better than anyone else in the party, or get information from the unlikeliest of places, he was not above stabbing people in the back (literally or figuratively), using loved ones as hostages, or taking things from random passerby without even a thought.

When the party agreed to disband, the only thing Vel told them was that he was now calling himself Jelnak. While the others have kept sporadic contact, they've had no word from Jelnak in five years. All attempts at divination have turned up nothing, though Lissandra says that he's not dead (she does a yearly commune to determine the status of certain individuals). All attempts at gathering information have turned up nothing as well. Vel was fairly remarkable, having red hair, one blue eye and one green, but they've turned up nothing on him.
