An ode to a friend

Nearly a year and a half ago, I lost a friend. He was too young and too excited about the world to be gone. This is my farewell to him, he will be sorely missed.

TRUTH

Ode to Seth Honeycutt.

Opening doors and waxing horizons,
The keys are shiny and new,
Far to the west, lost in the fog,
Lies the truth.
It remains hidden and sacred.

For most people,
Dreamers hold the lantern and seers guide the boat
Around the sharp rocks of reason.

Alas, only hopes and dreams
Can glimpse this pure light;
Though always from afar
And through the warped lens of imagination.

Doomed never to realize we've seen pieces of this precious light
Until the time has passed for its illuminating gleam.
Seldom does the smoky haze clear
Long enough that we may truly open our eyes.

Closing doors and waning horizons,
The keys are rusted and bent;
But the smoke is slowly lifting
Around the light called the truth,
As the knowledge to understand it
Fades from our minds.

Until at last we become lost in the truth.
