OGL and character generation

Suppose I want to write a game that will be OGL but not d20. That means I can (and pretty much have too) include rules for generating and advancing characters.

But, can my method for creation be the same as that put forth in the PHB?

In other words, can I say something like "Roll 4d6 and take the best 3". What about the point buy system? I can see that these aren't declared as Open Content, but are such mechanics copyrighted by WotC?

I'm in the position of not wanting to be d20 (because of the censorship issues), but I do want to use the OGL and would just as soon create character stats by rolling 6 siders or doing point buy. Is that possible?

As long as you right in your own words and NOT copy straight from Wizards' rulebooks.

And yes, every WotC's products are copyrighted, including the SRD.

The OGL allows copyleft of certain DESIGNATED Open Game Content. That's the SRD.
