G'day folks!

WotC have just posted the D&D Miniatures Organized Play rules[url].

Of note:

Constructed Tournaments

Formats may be 100 pt, 200 pt or Huge 500 pts.

(There seem to be some big point-values coming up in Archfiends and Giants of Legend)

They use either Quick Strike (first to 70 pts) or Triad (rotates between three victory goals) formats.

Sealed Tournaments and Booster Draft Tournaments

Formats may be 100 or 200 pts, depending on what packs are used.

Again, Quick Strike or Triad format goals may be used.

If you don't have a commander, you may spend 5 points to make your lowest point, non-difficult figure a Commander 0. That's rather nice.

In Sealed, no faction rules apply.
In Booster Draft, you can make your warband out of two adjacent factions - so LG/CG, LG/LE, CG/CE or LE/CE. Effectively the factions become "Good", "Evil", "Chaos" or "Law"

The rules look pretty good, all things considered.

So are the miniatures rules now an enitrely separate game or an aspect of D&D?

Seems more like the former.

Since the very start, they were always both. Its STILL its own Skirmish game like Mage Knight and other Clix games, but it is ALSO easily usable for D&D.

The miniature rules are a separate game strongly based on D&D. Did you expect differently? Using the full RPG rules in a miniature game of several dozen combatants on each time... not good.

The actual miniatures can be used for the skirmish or mass combat games, or for regular D&D play. I don't use miniatures that much in the RPG, but I've been using the skirmish rules a lot. I think I'm in the minority, however - most people buying them are probably doing so for RPG usage.

For some reason I am not seeing the actual link to miniatures play. Is this the same as the Wizkids Dragon Attack Wing Series? IIRC you can play with miniatures other than flying creatures.

This thread is close to fifteen years old. The link has probably expired.
