Dwimmermount IC:

As Klyman stands in the center of the stalactite room scratching his head Midgrim and Gargrim go to check out the murals. It appears that they show the Thulians first invading, then sacking, then dragging away the loot from an Eldrich city.

OOC: So I take it both rooms are otherwise bare then?

"Central column," furnishes Midgrim with a distracted frown that says it's the most obvious thing in the world. "The smooth side?"

Then: "Hm," says the rounder of the two brothers while running stubby but careful fingers over any bumps and hollows in the drawing. "Don't suppose they drew where they stashed the stuff, did they...?"

OOC: Searching the mural for any secrets, tapping it here and there for compartments too while he's at it. :) Also, in addition to the question above, is there any particular piece of the 'loot' (or looter) that seems to stand out?

Klyman: Tapping away at the pillar you find the smooth area that Midgrim seemed to have been talking about. Running your fingers along it you think it might actually be a plug made from Thulian Concrete. Of course that begs the question of whether or not it is actually covering a hidden compartment, or if it was intended as a structural re-enforcement. If you muck about with it too much and it was intended for the latter it might end badly.

Midgrim, as you examine the third panel you notice a cart carrying a great pile of art and other valuables. Unlike the rest of the panels which are carved in bas relief this one is is ever so slighly in high relief. Running your fingers around the edge you find a gap with a iron key concealed within.

"Aha! Iron key... Hey, Gargrim, [Iron] in common sound a lot like great-great-grandfather Iren, now that yee mention it. Hadn't noticed that before..." And they're the 'Iron defenders' now too! Would the grizzled old adventurer be flattered? Or insulted they thought he needed defending...?

Yeah, definitively number 2.

"Now where's that keyhole...?"

OOC: He'll continue searching the bas-relief, now looking for a hole to put that key in. Don't suppose that raised section can be pressed in or pulled out or something, can it?

Failing that, where does it look like they're taking the cart in the mural?

(I'm liking this quite a lot, by the way. Been a while since I did some true dungeon-delving. :))

Poking and prodding around the rest of the murals doesn't seem to accomplish much. It looks like other than the small compartment containing the key there is nothing else of interest... Thinking about it though, if you were to figure out how to cut the murals themselves from the walls and somehow transport them to Adamas there'd likely be at least one nobleman with more money than sense who would pay a good chunk of coin in order to display them in a banquet hall or something but you suspect that such an endeavor might be more trouble than it's worth, especially since the only exit you know of is the one leading to the stone wrought stairs.

Jimi turns and glances over his shoulder when he hears Midgrim mention the key.

"A key? Good job, Midgrim. Was it left here by those Kobolds, or is it of Dwarven make? Might give us some clue as to what it will unlock... and if it's hidden here, does it make sense to think that whatever lock this fits might not be far away...?"

Feeling relatively sure for the moment that nothing is approaching them from behind, Jimi moves to take a look down the corridor to the east, that they have not yet explored. He glances down the passageway trying to see what lies ahead.

OOC: Does the key's make offer any clues as to its origins or use, Imperialus? No maker's mark on it or anything?

"Or it's something ta do with this cart of loot it was hidden under... Ah well." The jowly dwarf drops the key into his purse before he and his brother turn their attention to Klyman's find...

Jimi: You're not 100% sure, but shining the light from your lantern down the corridor it would appear to be reflecting off of something that looks vaugely like spiderwebs.

Midgrim: No it seems like a simple iron key. Well made, and it's been there for quite some time on account of the rust but other than that, completely unremarkable.

Klyman Sylar

Klyman will carefully and meticulously feel across the surface of the pillar, including all of the smooth portion plus about 3 inches past the edge of the smooth portion. He is in search of a hidden keyhole.

"Let me see if I can find a place to use that key....."
