The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

San-Bolo look from the pool to each other and Sannit shrugs. Bolo turns to the other way users and says, "Perhaps we should link and investigate this pool with way before jumping in."

Bolo suddenly turns her head to look at the pool in alarm. "No, something is wrong here. We should be very cautious. I think the glow is bait and something is waiting for us to enter the pool."

Sheldon walks upstream along the edge toward the higher fall.

"I agree. I'm getting a bad feeling about this. I going to climb up this little rock wall here and see if the advantage will allow me to see into the water."

At the same time Indigo examines the bank more carefully.

"Look at the tracks here and several more places over there. It looks like different animals have come to drink at the edge of the pool and have been dragged in by something."

Sannit pulls out his spear and checks the tip. "Everyone get loose. Could be another hungry critter."

Bolo takes out her bow and nocks an arrow, focusing her thoughts as she does to try and determine what is in the pool.

Day 18: A Strange Pool in the River

OOC: Sheldon climbed the ascending rock wall but was still unable to see down into the pool. After dropping in a couple of stones, he gives up and rejoins the group.

OOC: San-Bolo remain vigilantly on guard for several minutes but to no avail. Nothing disturbs the pool.

Sheldon paces back and forth examining the tracks at the pool and following back into the wood on several sets.

"People are not, but most most animals are active more at night. Maybe whatever is in the pool waits until dark. Maybe Bolo is right. Those lights may be baits or some sort of attractant. I, for one, have no intention of just diving off into the water and hoping for the best. We can wait until dark, but I have no plan of action for us."

Bolo gets a strange look on her face and says, "Could we link together with way and heat the water in the pool? That might drive out whatever is in there." After she said that the others realized the look on her face is anticipation.

Sannit scratches his beard and says, "You said it was using way? Can we at least tell what it's doing?"

Merin offers the following:

"Perhaps we could use The Way to grab whatever is glowing and lift it out of the water. If it is an object, then we might succeed. If it's an appendage of some sort, it would be akin to pulling the Tiger's tail. Either way, we can at least discover what this thing is."

Tor shakes his head;

"Little brother, you take too many chances. That sounds like a really bad idea."

Sheldon -

"It is too much water, but even if we could, I would not want to. There is no telling what all we might effect as the heat moves downstream. That much heat would take a while to dissipate."

Merin clarifies -

"It is not manipulating way. The fact that it is alive causes pulsations in the weave. The fact that the pulses are strong and regular means that whatever it is, it has lived in the same place a long time, and I think it's big."

GM: Linking to attempt a blind telekinesis, Bolo, Merin, and Sheldon manage to create a 'knock' in the pool, meaning that the water bounces up and down, noticeably, for a few seconds. The glowing lights move around the darkness, but nothing surfaces.

Sheldon offers -

"If we do not wish to wait for dark, perhaps we can bait it, like fishing. We can tie some of our dried ham to some silk cord and throw it into the pool. Tie the other end to a tree."

Sannit starts shaking his head as soon as Sheldon says 'dried ham'. "I'm fine with waiting until dark, but if we're going to bait it I'm sure it will take fresh meat. We can take time out for a hunt." He glances at Bolo still staring at the pool, "And I think this one needs some time away from this place."

Sheldon -

"Good point. We have a few hours until dark. Indigo and I will take care of the pack animals then head south along the upstream rock ledge to see what we may find."

Day 18: Looking for Bait

OOC: San-Bolo, Merin, Tor, Sheldon, and Indigo divide up into their usual pairs and separate heading south away from the river looking for small game. Aust and Revan remain at camp. It is approximately 4 hours until dark.

GM: After about 2 hours, Sheldon and Indigo return having captured an armadillo. The animal is simply sleeping and not dead.

GM: After almost 3 hours, Merin and Tor return with a raccoon. The animal is paralyzed but not dead.

GM: Just before dark, San-Bolo return with two things, one of which was unexpected. The first is a turkey, which is decided to be used for supper rather than bait. The second, trailing in very close proximity to Bolo is a young sun bear. The bear appears to be just over 2 years of age, which is when the cubs usually leave their mothers to fend for themselves. On all fours, the bear's shoulder reaches Bolo's waist. It will grow half again larger when it reaches full size in 2 more years.

GM: The bear is a highly suitable animal companion. It's compassion toward Bolo will need to be reinforced periodically for a few days. This reinforcement will be taken for granted. If the bear is not wanted as a companion, Bolo can simply send it away and her affect on it will fade so that it will return to normal behavior.
