(LONG!!) Some Player's are Complete @$$'s!!!

First Post
Okay earlier tonight i got home from a long shift at work. I look at the calls on the phone. I see my DM called me earlier, so I call him back and he tells me one of the other players, wanted to split the game in to and have me and one other person in a seperate game from him, because to him all we are, is hack and slashers. He wanted the DM to run a seperate game for him and 2 others plus bring in a fourth, cause this player feels that they are the "ROLE PLAYERS".

The DM said no, which was a good thing, but this i'm a role player and your not garbage has come up time and tiem again with him. All he plays if Lawful Good, and let me poitn out he is not very good at it either. He meta games everychance he gets, and the list goes on and on. He is planning on meta gaming the fact the the other player he wanted slatted with me aqquired 7k from a bounty hit last game. The player took the money and turned on the employer. I might not agree with this but it happened big deal.

I play a neutral templar with no devotion to any one specific god for RP reasons. The player who is the "ROLE PLAYER" is playing a celestial cleric/fighter. The other player who he wants slatted plays a Bloodhound/Consecrated Harrier. All 3 of our character's has relgious ties so you would think we could get along, but NOO, You see he also made his character a prince, so he acts like he is above the party. he complaines that we do not role play yet when we are all at the royal dinner for savign a city, he tryed to ignore the two of us, and later when it came to a meeting with the pc's and king he had the nerve to say sorry i don't want you guys there, its private.

I let him get away with this because 1. i wasn't to particularily intrested in politics with my character, and two he likes that part of the game so i figured i would let him have a moment, to enjoy himself. The other player the consecrated harrier pushed to have to earn the right to get into the meeting. When that game session ended the dumb@$$ celestial characters player decided to say to me, it was a good night almsot all of us roleplayed. I errupted on him at that moment, but the DM managed to settle me down. I went upstairs for the rest of the night and waited for the others who would be leavign with me. That player then couldn't understand why I was so mad at him.

Then the next game session, it was short maybe 2.5 hours long. we entered a dungeon and started to gater items, because this is one of the only ways we can get magic items in this campaign. (our first dunegon crawl at that in the camapign). So MR Celestial wasn't there that game, and now plans to complain and give us a hard time because he doesn't want to do a dunegon, he excpects us to do and go were he wants. The short game was last night, and the request was made by him earlier today.

*takes a deep breath*
Well if you read all the way to the bottom i apologize for typing so much, but i had to get that off my chest.
Thank you for reading.

Seems like the "Roleplayer" is using the excuse of "roleplaying" to be an *******.

One more reason to generally RP with people who are also your friends away from the table.

As for advice? I don't think it is wise for an outsider who does not truly know the situation to be handing out tidbits of pretentious advice. All I can say is, good luck...

feel free to say what you like this has been an on going thing that has spanned over the course of *counts* 5 different games under 3 different DM's. say what you think, I am.

Ohh ya this person I always a lawful good, or chaotic good person. When he plays chaotic he assumes chaotic good = chaotic evil and acts that way. Everythign he makes is either a cleric/fighter or a paladin. I wouldn't be annoyed with that part its jsut he excpetcts everyone to swing to his preference and wants other people kicked when they don't. He was my first DM, neddles to say his ideals of RP was one of the reaosns i no longer play with him as a DM.

Nat a bad little rant, glad it makes you feel better. It has been in my experiecne that the people who claim to be good role players, usually are not. THe good ones need not tell people they are, they show them. Good luck and I hope this doesn't kill your group, I've seen groups end for much less.

At the moment I am planning on power criticaling with a mercurical greatsword/flaming burst/smite +9/power attack +5/Damage bonuses +13.
Think that would get my poitn across to him that would be i think

2d6+9 smite +5 Power Attack, other bonuses +13 x4+ 1d6(Flaming Burst) +3d10 (Flamign Critical).

I think the average would be about 181 damage, this sound right?.

I know violence don't help but i am getting to the edge, and i have no other game to go to at all.
Thanks for your oppinions Crothian, i tend to agree with you about the smug attitude part.

The solution is clear--min/max the most powerful character you can think of (see the Sultans of Smack thread in the Rules forum if you want help for this) then execute his character in the most painful manner possible.

Yes, you will be strengthening his arguments about you not being a "role-player" right, but it'll feel good, trust me. :)

EDIT: Oops, looks like this is exactly what you're planning on doing. Excellent!

And he gets away with it!?!?!?!?!?

I had a LE Monk lose Lawful and go to Neutral because I was allowing the Chaotic Something (one Evil and two Neutrals) get away with lying and not upholding their words. My arguement: I am EVIL, I don't care what they do as long as I uphold my end. But, I was of course overruled (the DM had already ruled... I was just protesting).

Sounds like it is more than just player problem. Sounds like a push over DM. Well before I go that far, does the DM do anything to control this aberant player?

In a game I ran (waaaaayyyy back in the day of 1st ed-I actually ran a different system) I had such a player. I explianed to him that his attitude was ruining the game and he had 5 choices, 2 of which would be pleasant, the rest painful. Either change, leave peacefully, or 3 options of pain.

He left the group and there was much rejoicing.

Seems like it's time to break free from the pack and start your own game!

Greg

I was running my own cmpaign up until about a month ago. The player i mentioned pulled out of my game, when players were the equivelent of the current oil crisis's. Also another of my players jpoined a 3rd game that got moved to the day of mine. so I kinda had no choice but to end my game. I would run another, but there is a lack and I do mean lack of players.

Val, if your Dm's Willing I have a solution to DEAL with that, as I have a special Pr-class made ONLY for monsters, which are good against religious/clerical/paladin powers. Trust me, they won't know what hit them. :) Barring that, just have your DM hit them with an avatar! ;)
