Need "civilized" half orc playable race

RichGreen

Hi,

Can anyone help with suggestions for a playable half orc race? I could use the Orc stats in the back of the MM but they're not really in line with half orcs in my campaign - description below:

Half-Orcs
Definitely third-class citizens, forming an underclass. However, Parsantium's half-orcs have formed their own community and are trying their hardest to become accepted by the rest of the city. Unlike their warlike orcish ancestors, they are typically honest, clean-living, hard-working and peaceful. They perform manual labour and do the "unclean" jobs that the Sahasrans can't do. Orcish is never spoken (although most know the language) and orcish writings are kept out of half-orc homes. Half-orcs worship the gods of the Akhrani Pantheon.

Thanks!

You need a few more defining characteristics to come up with a whole race entry.

RACIAL TRAITS
Average Height:
Average Weight:

Ability Scores: STR +2 (menial laborers), WIS +2 (honest, clean living, hardworking, peaceful and trying to seek acceptance)
Size: Medium
Speed: 6
Vision: Low-light

Languages: Common, Orc (unless you don’t want to make a new language in which case Giant)
Skill Bonuses: +2 Endurance (menial laborers), +2 Diplomacy or Streetwise (you’d only list 1, I could see it go either way)

Here you need to decide what kind of traits make them different from Orcs, and what makes them a distinct race. Does the race have a proclivity for a certain class? What kind of abilities do they share in common?

Some suggestions:

1) Dual Heritage: You can take feats that have either orc or human as a prerequisite (as well as those specifically for half-orcs), as long as you meet any other requirements.

2) As menial laborers and those who do really dirty jobs, focus on physical endurance and resistance to disease.
---a. +5 racial bonus to saving throws against disease
---b. +3 racial bonus to Endurance checks made for Disease Progression
---c. Survivalist: Half-orcs can survive on less food and water than others. A half-orcs DC to ignore hunger is 10 + 1/day and to ignore thirst is 15+2/day.

3) An endurance oriented racial trait:
---a. An encounter power such as regain 2+CON modifier in HP when 1st become bloodied.
---b. Healing Surge = 1/4HP + CON mod
---c. Bonus Healing surges (as the feat)

There are just some thoughts off the top of my head from what you listed.

Thanks for the suggestions -- good stuff! I like the idea of Parsantium's half orcs being resistant to disease. They live in the poorest part of the city and deal with "unclean" jobs such as tanning, slaughtering animals etc so this fits really well.

Cheers
