Forked from: Goodman NOT going GSL it looks like

Not suggesting what GG WILL do, but wondering...if they create an OGL product NOW, AND they plan on going GSL, doesn't that mean that they have about two months to sell that product before they're required to destroy all their old stock?

According to Mr Goodman himself on the Ogre Cave podcast, Goodman Games will use the OGL to make 4e compatible adventures until they can use the GSL. It sounds like Mr. Goodman likes the GSL.

I'm only a bit into the podcast but they got right into it.

This creates some interesting scenarios.

For one thing, it seems like the "4E OGL" products could very much be a road map for using the OGL to reverse-engineer the 4E rules under the OGL. I know that the people at 4Esque (which I'm a part of, and in fact named) will be very pleased with that development.

It's also curious because it seems like, once they start using the GSL in October, they'll immediately need to pulp the products that use the 4E OGL rules they created.

I think you missed phloog's point. For all we know, Goodman might not get the implication, either (unless he's bringing a sell-out stock to GenCon or not branding these "OGL 4e" adventures as part of the same "product line".)

If he is, in fact, using the OGL, he has to pulp any unsold adventures when he puts out his GSL products in October if they are part of the same "game line" under the terms of the GSL.

Goodman announced either last year or early this year that their modules will be getting an "upgraded" look going from 1E inspired to 2E inspired.

So far, the marketing has clearly labeled the 4e adventures as Dungeon Crawl Classics, even though the cover layout is different. I'm guessing he's going with the sell-out stock plan (except that several have a September release, which is cutting it pretty close.)

This discontinuation of the 3e DCC line has already been announced, and the 2 upcoming 1e DCCs are "gen con exclusives."

Could this be behind the drastically different (and inferior, imo) new module cover design?

They have been claiming for a while, long before the GSL, that they would have a new, more "2nd edition" look, for their DCCs (or whatever they now call them).

Edit: ninja'd. darn ENW2.
