Tell me about Castle Falkenstein

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Not all that knowledgeable about Castle Falkenstein and having watched The Time Machine remake earlier, I am curious to know more about the setting and about the Morlocks of it. Are the Morlocks in any way similar to those in the Time Machine movie? I'm thinking of setting up a one shot 800,000 A.D. adventure and would like to know more.

I think morlocks would be like Orcs in racial build with the Psychic Warrior as their favored class. The Eloi would probably be like elves in a way, but only as per interacting with the world around them. I think that a -2 Int and +2 Cha would be appropriate for them.

Anyone have any thoughts comments or constructive criticsm they would like to say?

Cant remember any morlocks in Falkenstein.

But as the game system is very easy you can just define one really fast.

Given the nature of the setting, both the creator of that time machine and the author of the original story exist in it. I mean, it has both Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle! Captain Nemo and Jules Verne!

So I'd say it's definitely possible to visit the Morlocks from New Europa (the Castle Falkenstein setting), although it is hard to say if the time travelers will really visit the future. It is more likely that he has inadvertedly created some sort of magical engine and traveled through the Faerie Veil (the faeries of the setting are big dimension-travelers as well) to a different Earth that's also in the future.

Really, the setting of Castle Falkenstein is of such a nature that you can put just anything into it that fits into the pseudo-Victorian theme - and quite a few things that do not...

It might be out of print so you'll have to check Ebay or used RPG stores for the books. Its a pretty good setting.

A friend of mine played a combination of Castle Falkenstein and Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game as moving in Shadows and the Faerie Veil with its parallel realities are so similar... he couldn't resist. I was not a part of that group due to a time conflict. Sigh!

How to sum up CF…. which is a challenge.

Fae (not elves) in top hats when they’re solid enough to wear a top hat.

Dragons that spark their racial memories through the treasures their ancestors owned

Dwarves that can sit in a volcano and not be burned.

Inventors that can create machines that plumb the Earth or reach the Moon.

… and those are the players.

The NPCs are a mish-mash of historic figures, Victorian age writers AND their fictional creations (when an author’s foreword said “he found this manuscript” he’s telling the truth.)
