Looking for alternatives to official Epic rules

It's that time! A PC in my game hit 21st lvl, and I've been lead to believe that somewhere out there (Advanced Players Handbook?) are better alternatives to the ELH. My game will never go beyond 25th lvl, so I'm looking for a system that extends the normal class progressions but offers some cool Epic perks. Anyone have any suggestions for me, either published or home brew?

Many thanks.

How about simply continuing the class progression (e.g., do not dilute BAB advancement, as suggested in the official stuff), extrapolating spell tables, and offering epic-level feats. Extrapolating charts works particularly well if there is a hard level limit for your campaign.

Most of the epic feats published are pretty decent, although sometimes the feat tree to get there can be tedious and require planning (but stuff like +1 to an ability score is not epic level, IMO).

Well, Upper_Krust has been working on the Immortal's Handbook forever. But I suspect you want to do something sooner than that. :)

Hey, just go with the Epic rules in FRCS, which was released prior to ELH.

I think the easiest thing to do is simply allow free multiclassing. That's a pretty "cool Epic perk". Take a couple of levels each of paladin and rogue and a level of monk. May not seem "cool" at first, but adding your Wisdom bonus to your AC and your Charisma bonus to all saves, while getting evasion is pretty good when you don't need to worry about XP penalties for doing so.

Yep, Advanced Player's Handbook (or whatever it is called - by S&SS) has extended the level progressions to 30 for all the core classes instead of triggering the 'epic rules' at that level. And yes, it includes epic-style perks at these levels.

Its the system I've switched to after running one campaign from level 1 to level 25.

You could always allow "super powers", as made into classes, from 4C2F or the like. Those are pretty "epic", and would give hong the opportunity to say "HEROoization".

Can you give an example of these? Sounds interesting.

The multiclassing is an interesting option I hadn't considered, but it might not fit the character - he's a single class, not even any prestige classes. I may want to go over the "official" epic rules and look at what feats I'll allow if I just extend the class.

Isn't the next campaign going to be a bit of a letdown after dealing with such characters? Is for me.

A letdown? Nah. Just different. This game is heading towards its 13th year with the same group of PCs, so people might welcome a change. :)

This is the path I'd recommend; it's what I've done with my high-level group, more or less.

What particular problems did/do you have with the ELH?

Im assuming you mean Velendo:)

Advanced players guide gives the following for 21th level and higher clerics:
Besides bab, save and spell progression (more spells, no spells over 9th) there are the following:

21th: diety's favor 1/week a small boost on a roll (max +4 profane bonus), this is DM controlled, but the player may hint:)
22th: better turning
23th: more turning , and diety's favor 2/week
24th: even better turning
25th: diety's favor 3/week
26th: more and better turning
27th: diety's favor 4/week
28th: still better turning
29th: more turning, and diety's favor 5/week
30th best turning, and "divine intervention" (1/3months massive help, at dm discretion)
