MD-VA-DC Game Day - 10/2/04: Crunch Time Approaches - Volunteers Needed!

Old One

First Post
UPDATE! CONFIRMED DATE IS 10/2/04 - COLONY BALLROOM - UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND (COLLEGE PARK)

Ola!

Old One here...just trying to gauge the interest level of a Maryland-DC-N. Virginia EN World Game Day for either late summer or early fall. I know there is a pretty good concentration of EN Worlders in the area (Psion, Vaxalon, Destan and many others) and thought it might be fun to try to put one together.

Since I have NOTHING else to do for the next couple of months <insert serious sarcasm>...I thought I would toss another steak on the grill. What I am looking for is:

If you have an interest, please respond in this thread using the following format:

(1) I am willing to DM/GM. I would prefer to run <insert game system/genre>.

(2) I would prefer to DM/GM a morning slot/afternoon slot/no preference.

(3) I am/am not willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day.

(4) I think the best location for such an event is _____________ .

I am thinking a Saturday event, somewhere around the DC Beltway. A "free" venue, such as a university student union would be ideal, but other options would work as well.

Please post your thoughts here or e-mail me at....

Thanks!

~ Old One

PS - For those that have organized these critters before (Rel and Mark CM, this means you) any tips are welcome!

(1) I am willing to DM/GM. I would prefer to run Dungeons and Dragons.

(2) I have no preference as to when I GM

(3) I am willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day.

(4) I think the best location for such an event is Northern VA, possibly on the campus of George Mason.

On a side note, I would be coming from Richmond, VA. The ideal location for me would be Richmond, but I realize that's not real realistic.

Heya Old One and all other others in the DC Metro area,

(1) I'd prefer to play but would be willing to DM if needed. I would prefer to run Dungeons and Dragons 3.0/3.5e.

(2) I have no preference to a game time.

(3) I am willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day.

(4) I think the best location for such an event is DreamWizards .

I know DreamWizards from my time playing Magic: The Gathering. It has a large gaming area and is just north of the DC Beltway in Rockville, MD. They host plenty of different gaming events and I don't see why they couldn't be booked for a place. Of course, they might be busy enough that trying to get the hall (its actually just the back of the store with sitting for 100+ people) would be difficult. I'd be willing to give them a call and check it out if anyone would like.

Here is their website:

Nonetheless, thats the best I could offer.

Good luck with this! I'll make sure to keep my eyes open.

Interested

Not sure what an EN World Game day is, but I would be interested in sitting in/watching/participating. Any more information on what an EN World Game day is would help me figure out more.

Many Thanks!

(1) I am willing to DM/GM. I would prefer to run D&D, T20, d20 Modern, Spycraft, or maybe even Grim Tales (perhaps I could run one of the pick-ups I am planning for GenCon.)

(2) I would prefer to DM/GM an afternoon slot. (It takes me about an hour to get to the beltway, so don't expect to see me bright and early.)

(3) I am not willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day. (I expect to be to busy with other stuff between now and then.)

(4) I think the best location for such an event is (no idea, but preferably somewhere on the south end of the beltway or Alexandria. Waldorf or LaPlata would be even more ideal for me, but I know that's not gonna happen. ;) )

DM Iago,

If you wouldn't mind touching base with DW and seeing what's involved in reserving space, costs involved, hours available, etc...I would be most grateful. The first order of business will be to identify a gathering place...then get it set-up from there.

Obviously, don't commit to anything yet, but see what their availability would be for Saturdays from August 28th to November 13th.

Thanks!

Alynnalizza,

It is a gathering of EN Worlders to play a variety of games and get to meet in other than cyberspace. They have been held in Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Raliegh (NC) and some other places.

The format, typically, is two general gaming sessions - 1 Morning Session and 1 Afternoon Session - with game slots in each session running 3-5 hours, depending on the genre, game system, DM and players.

In some ways, it is similar to a mini-convention...except no guests-of-honor or vendors (typically). The most recent one I attended was North Carolina Game Day IV and it had about 125 attendees (I think) spread across about 20 events (Rel...did I get that about right?).

Basically, once we have a venue selected, we will post an official call for DMs/Games...depending on how much space we have available. DMs will post a description of their game, # of players desired and what materials are needed...then players can sign up for respective games.

Does that help?

Wasn't there one of these shindigs in Game Parlor (Chantilly) recently? I vaguely remember that I wanted to go to that one but couldn't make it. How did Game Parlor work out as a venue?

-The Gneech

Old One, sorry I wouldn't be able to make it all the way to Jolly Old Maryland, but good luck on the endeavor, anyway!

Was there?

Gneech,

Was there? I must have missed seeing it pass by if so...

Chantilly is a bit of a hike for those in MD...Alexandria, U of M College Park and Rockville would all probably be a bit more central.

If there was one in Chantilly, can anyone post attendence details and thoughts?

Thanks,
