Battle Box!

Okay, I have seen one good thing come from the rant... for me anyway. I want a Battle Box, but I can't find it for sale anywhere! Am I missing it on the FDP page? Some help would be appreciated! And no, I will no go into an alley with a stranger wearing a trenchcoat even if he flashes a battle box to me!

BattleBox

Hi everyone,

The BattleBox: Core Fantasy Set is shipping to distribution this week, and should be showing up in your friendly retail stores over the following 2 weeks.

We're sending down a good quantity, but orders have been strong, and I expect sales to be brisk. We'll do our best to keep manufacturing them as fast as they're selling, but building those things takes time... :)

So, get your orders in! Make sure your local store has ordered it.

In my experience, the BattleBox is especially useful if you play with a bunch of "casual" D&D fans -- guys that know the rules, but don't have page numbers memorized. I happen to fall into that category, sort of (nothing memorized, but I can flip to the section pretty quick!)

In our group, we rarely (if ever) get fancy in combat. Not a lot of bull rushes, over runs, grapples or anything like that. We broke this out at GenCon with us and another group, and it was amazing how eager everyone was to "step out" a bit and try new things. We've got the rules broken out into small, non-threatening bits, and it really seems to work. We had disarming, dog-grappling, bull rush specials, etc. Very cool, and a lot of fun.

And, adding fun to the game is the bottom line, isn't it?

I just noticed that you folks were local (like, minutes away).

Anybody carrying it here in T.O. yet? Or, heh, I could buy it off a pallette in a warehouse or it could, ahem, fall off a truck :)

Failing that, what local retailers should I keep my eyes on?

First 'physical' (not primarily data/info based) product I've been really interested in since, well, dice and figures. Good one.

Battlebox rocks so hard it hurts. I used it in my game on Monday, and when I broke out the Burning Hands template, my players broke into raptures. And then, they wanted to see the Grapple card. And the Bull Rush card.

Having those cards really did encourage them to try a wider variety of tactics in battle.

Heh. And you should have heard the moans when I showed them (they're level 3) the fireball template.

Are there places which can handle international orders? the FLGSs in the Netherlands are mostly not Friendly, Local or especially wel stocked in Gaming goods so I order most all my stuff of of the internet.

The closest thing to a FLGS that comes close is a comic book store which has most of the stuff from WotC (with newer stuff showing up 2 months after their release date) and a strange small shop selling all kinds of fantasy stuff (mostly wicca, incense, books on mental massaging, etc.) which has a small collection of D&D (some S&S, WotC en White Wolf stuff).
