Sorry, dude. This system is drunk. Part of what balances classes is their access to skills... you've basically given elves a 64 point run of the skills chapter, while a human nets 12 points, assuming an 18 int on both characters.

There seems to be a bit of Elf favoritism here:

Humans get craft, knowledge, and professions, plus languages.

Elves, on the other hand, have a bevy of useful skills, esp the presence of use magic device making things seem a little unbalanced.

This system is not balanced at all.

It's too much for the elves. If you scaled back their skill list to something more managable - say some specific Craft skills (like bastket weaving, wreath making, flower arranging) and Knowledge skills (History, Local), Perform, and Appraise, that would be much better.

I actually like it.

But I do agree its not quiet balanced for the longer lived races, I suppose thats the point though, it always seemed weird to me that a 1st level rogue of 16 years of age, had so many more skills than the 130 year old elven wizard.
If all the PCs were of a single long-lived race it would certainly counter the weirdness of a young human farmer with more skills than them.

I don't think it has a large effect on combat ability, so its only the comparison between PCs that I'd be worried about as opposed to upsetting the CR system. *hmmm*.

I suppose if one wanted to use something like this without to much tweaking, the easiest solution to reduce the favouritism of years, would be to open up more (mechanically useful) skills to the shorter lived races, eg perhaps humans could use any skills for their background, to compensate for their fewer skillpoints, making humans more adaptable but less overally skilled.

Well thats my 2 cents.
