Wizards - online survey problems

It does not look like is was created by Wizards. I think someone has hacked their page anbd made a link to this questionary... I cannot be sure, but it looks very suspecious! I'll advise against using it...

Presumably, they are doing it for people who wish to join the Forum, so that they always know their age. You are right though, they should ask this when you join the forum, not before you take the pole.

I think that more likely that it represents the people who put the thing together not thinking the question out...

In other words, incompetence rather than malevolence.

(At least I hope so...I filled out the survey :\ )

Its for a form of market research, from what I can tell. I took the entire survey last night, and got an 'invitation' of sorts into a D&D Player Advisory thingy. From how its written, it looks like they select who gets that based on the age group/how long you've played/other demographics.

I think there are a few things that speaks against this being an official WotC poll. First it is not a wizards adress (the previous ones were, as far as I can remember), the grafic header is not up to the normal quality from WotC and even if it is a demographics survay, they could just stick with your age. I might be overly paranoid, but in regards to internet links and activity, that is only a good idea... :-)

Its done by a company called TNS. They do market research and have paired up with WotC for this Player Advisory Panel thing for more surveys, etc etc. Methinks you are being a little over paranoid, though I agree that its not always a bad thing to be. :)

Although I trust Wizards, I don't trust TNS. I don't know who they are.

I also think it is an extremely bad precedent to set - Wizards do know my birthdate (due to the RPGA), and I don't mind that... but on an online survey, I'm far more suspicious.

Especially when there is only ONE actual question on the survey. (What do you think of D&D?) That makes me very suspicious indeed.

Honestly, it looked similar to most of the other survey's they've done. Just instead of a 'what do you want to see?' type survey, its more a 'what do you do?' survey. Almost ironic to me, as it sounds like they're asking what people want out of D&D, which has been a huge hot topic of late about how WotC is doing things wrong...now they put up a survey that may help that and no one trusts them. Just can't win with WotC ;)

EDIT: And looking at their main site at www.tns-global.com they aren't just some unknown. Looks to me like WotC has just combined their efforts with a major market research company.

I wouldn't worry.

The survey has been up for a number of days, and WOTC/HASBRO is a big company. Had someone hacked their site you can be pretty sure they'd have either removed the offending link, or taken the site down for a bit. At the very least you would have heard an announcement from WOTC either on their site, or here.

Add to that what oither have posted about the company doing the survey being legit, and there ya go.

I took it. I thought the questions were very relevant demographics wise. They ask who you are, what you mainly do with D&D and such. It's basically an entrance exam into the stone cutters.. err I mean, into a review board...
