[Trailer] Kingdom of Heaven (Ridley Scott)

Looks good, even if it appears that Scott has borrowed somewhat, directorially speaking, from his own Gladiator. I like the overhead view of the siege. Plenty of visuals that any gamer should love. :)

Looks good, as long as the finished version doesn't overdo the moralizing.

I have to say I find it amusing that the bad guys in a movie about the Crusades these days have to be other Westerners... Reminds me of a story about a guy trying to pitch a war movie, and getting asked by one of the film execs "So, who are the bad guys?" He replied "The Germans", and the exec smiled indulgently and said "No, who are the real enemies?"

Anyway, I like that they put them all in realistic (well, for all I know) chainmail, rather than in anachronistic or entirely made-up plate armor.

BTW, is that David Wenham (aka Faramir) in one of the last scenes, saying something about "strength for what is to come"?

I believe so, and I think I also spotted the chap who plays Hamish in Braveheart. Looks like a pretty good cast overall -- Liam Neeson in a medieval role is excellent!

Repost of further info -

I just heard this was coming in early/mid 2005...

Kingdom of Heaven

During the Crusades of the 12th Century, Balian of Ibelin (Bloom), a young blacksmith in Jerusalem, rises to protect his people from foreign invaders.

Looks like a solid cast.

Set during the 12th century in the holy city of Jerusalem, a young peasant blacksmith (Bloom) becomes a knight so that he may help repel the Crusaders who took control of the city in 1099. Meanwhile, the young knight also falls in love with the city's beautiful princess (Green)... (Neeson plays the blacksmith's father; Thewlis plays a priest.)

Some pics on Bloom's site here -

Who are the bad guys supposed to be in the movie? I haven't found many discussions of the plot online..

Banshee

The cast according to imdb
Orlando Bloom....Balian of Ibelin
Eva Green....Sybilla
Liam Neeson....Godfrey of Ibelin
Jeremy Irons....Tiberias
Jouko Ahola
Shane Attwooll....Reynald's Templar Knight
Tim Barlow....Old Guard
Christian Boeving
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau....Godfrey of Ibelins nephew
Marton Csokas....Guy de Lusignan
Samira Draa....Sybilla's maidservant
Eriq Ebouaney....Firuz
Khaled El Nabaoui
Jon Finch....Patriarch of Jerusalem
Michael Fitzgerald....Humphrey
Brendan Gleeson....Reynald
Ghassan Massoud....Saladin
Kevin McKidd
Nasser Memarzia....Muslim Grandee
Edward Norton....King Baldwin IV
Michael Shaeffer....Young sergeant
Michael Sheen
Alexander Siddig....Imad
David Thewlis....Hospitaller
Ulrich Thomsen....Templar master
Velibor Topic....Almaric
Brendan Gleeson is always good. Always.

I'm also glad they have a Saladin. And while I agree that it looked like Dave Wenham, it might have been David Thewlis, or someone else, for it truly was a short scene.

I'm sure they'll spend plenty of time fighting the Saracens, but judging from the preview, it looks like the main bad guy is going to be the "eeevil" leader of some monastic knight order, who does a lot of scowling at the camera and has lines like "Give me war!", with Brendan Gleeson as his henchman.

The guy talking about strength is David Thewlis.

Anyone bored of Bloom yet?

[sarcasm] I am glad he's stretching his acting chops with this roll...a blacksmith (Pirates)...and he's wielding a sword (6th of 13 movies)...and "historical/fantastical" (8 or 10 of 13)...[/sarcasm]
