Instant Stat Blocks For Windows Users!

Unattainable Ideal
Hey gang.

I finally got my Konfabulator widget for creating stat blocks working on Windows. It's not much, but I find it makes creating reference sheets and adventure notes a LOT easier, so maybe you will, too.

You'll need Konfabulator, of course, which is a funky little application that lets you run all sorts of easy-to-create "widgets" on your PC. I highly recommend it even if you don't (sob) like my widget.

Anyway, once you have Konfabulator installed and running, you can just copy the attached file to your machine. Change the ".zip" extension to ".widget" and it should become a Konfabulator file. Double-click it and you're just a couple of clicks away from any SRD stat block your little heart desires. You can even add your own stat blocks to make everything work even better.

The hotkey doesn't seem to work on Windows so don't bother, but it's still a useful little gadget nonetheless.

To recap:

1. Install Konfabulator. It's good. You'll like it.
2. Download attached ZIP file.
3. Rename "StatBlockPasterWin.zip" to "StatBlockPasterWin.widget"
4. Double-click "StatBlockPasterWin.widget" and you're off!

The data is all courtesy of Andargor, so thank him for all that. He's providing a great service to the community.

Let me know what you think!

Very cool! Thats a great little app, and one I'll definitly get use out of. I noticed that some of the monsters are unfamiliar to me, I assume they are replacements for creatures not in the SRD?

Um, I dunno. As far as I know, they're all SRD-based beasties. I didn't create any new ones -- although keep in mind that the SRD includes Epic and Psionic beasties these days.

I did consider breaking out the Epic monsters from the others (creating an "Epic" category along with the types categories), but decided just leaving them as types was easiest. It's dead easy to switch stuff like that around.

Thanks for the comments!

It seems like I'm missing a step.. I rename the .zip file to a .widget file, but when I double click it, it still acts just like a .zip file. Do I need to extract it somewhere, then rename one of the extracted files .widget?

If it's still changing to .zip, then the filename extension isn't really changed, just the name of it is. I think you should be able to change the filename extention by just going to properties.

Hi. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is a "statblock" and a "widget"?
Now, I haven't used this program but...

A stat block is something like this:

Half-ogre officer: half-ogre Fighter6; CR 7; Large giant; HD 6d10+18 (55 hp); Init +4; Spd 30'; AC 13 (+4 natural, -1 size), touch 9, flat-footed 13; Base Atk +6; Grp +16; Atk +11 Melee or +5 Ranged; Full Atk +11/+6 Melee or +5/+0 Ranged; SQ darkvision 60'; AL CE; SV Fort +8, Refl +2, Will +2; Str 22, Dex 11, Con 16, Int 8, Wis 10, Cha 8.
Skills: Intimidate +8.
Feats: Cleave, Great Cleave, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Weapon Focus (greataxe), Weapon Specialization (greataxe).

Widget seems to be the file extension of the files for this program.
