No love for the smart fighter?

Wanna play a character, dedicated to a single class from level 1 to 20. Gotta be a fighter (or a fighter concept-based alternative with same BAB). This guy is smart, with a natural 18 Int; not so notable in other physical attributes.

What does the core rule book offer the highly intelligent fighter? How about a supplemental rule book? What feat paths are available to make the most use of his smarts?

What do you want to do with the smarts? There is the combat Expertise feat tree that allows for all sorts of fun things.

Not even sure yet. Just want some options.
Right now I'm looking afield from combat and more toward the "Able Learner" feat (Races of Destiny, I think) that allows skill purchases on a 1-for-1 basis, even for cross-class skills (normal max still applies). At least he wouldn't be totally wasting his Intelligence bonus that way.

In CA, there's Int for Reflex saves. The Combat Expertise tree takes some intelligence. The duelist gives Int to AC (when unarmored). Craft skills are Int-based. You're also fluent in multiple languages.

As a human, you could keep seven skills maxed out... Handle Animal, Craft, Ride, Climb, Jump, Swim, and Listen (cross-class). I wouldn't worry about Able Learner, unless you wanted to pick up some knowledges.

I know you said you want to play a fighter ...

but have you thought about the rogue variant in UA that swaps out sneak attack for the fighter bonus feat progression?

You'd lose out on hitpoints and a bit on BAB ... but you would benefit from that INT of yours. You could probably put things like spring attack and mobility to good use also.

really, i think if you also multiclass into a swashbuckler for 3 levels, you can get int to damage. creatures immune to sneak attack and crits are immune, but the flavor is really nice,

Your smart so you know just how to place a blow.

Thank you.
So in response to my initial post, you would possibly rephrase your comment to suggest I consider playing a swashbuckler class (and not multiclass at all, which is something I don't want).
That's worth some thought. Just doesn't seem to be nearly enough flexibility when compared with the fighter's feats, though.

High Int and a good melee character?

Warblade, definitely.

Swashbuckler (for the Int to damage), Insightful Reflexes feat (CAdv) for Int to Reflex, Combat Expertise and its tree of feats. With high Int comes more skill points, so you might look into the combat uses of Intimidate and Bluff. If you invest on Bluff, go Improved Feint.

Look into the Combat Style feats that require Combat Expertise.
