Description: The gossamer, or hair beast, is a strange, 9’ high creature that appears to be made entirely of hair except for a small pair of feet. It is extremely lightweight, weighing only about 80 lbs. It has two upper limbs that are so hairy that they too appear to be made strictly of hair.
Combat: A gossamer does not seek battle but if threatened will fight back with its slam attack. If it can, it will grab victims and try to constrict them in its hairy strands.
Improved Grab (Ex): The gossamer can use its improved grab ability if it hits with its slam attack. If it gets a hold it can immediately constrict. Furthermore, once a hair beast gets a hold on a victim of medium or smaller size, it can transfer it to its hairy body as a move-equivalent action, freeing its arm to strike again. A gossamer can hold up to one medium, two small, four tiny, etc. creatures and suffers none of the penalties for grappling once it has transferred the creature to its body.
Tangle (Ex): Any weapon that strikes a gossamer may become tangled in its thick hair. If the wielder fails a Ref save, DC12, the weapon is yanked free from its grasp. A creature striking the hair beast with a natural weapon must also make a Reflex save or be tangled in it, essentially grappled (though the hair beast may not constrict a creature it has tangled). It takes a successful opposed grapple check for a creature to free itself from the tangle; freeing a weapon requires that the weapon first be grabbed and then a successful opposed grapple check must be made.
Resistances (Ex): Due to its hairy nature, a hair beast has cold resistance 15. Furthermore, it takes only half damage from all weapon and natural weapon attacks.
Vulnerabilities (Ex): A gossamer is exceptionally vulnerable to fire and suffers double damage from it, unless a saving throw is allowed for half damage (in which case it suffers half damage on a successful save or double damage on a failed save). If a hair beast is killed by fire, it burns away as if disintegrated. A gossamer is also extremely vulnerable to attack by scissors and clippers, suffering double damage from them.

More for fun than anything....

[edited to change name and add scissors and clippers vulnerability]

This monster is cool, but then I always was a sucker for Loony Tunes. The average hp should be 18 (4.5x4). I also gotta ask why the monster has skill ranks in Animal Empathy and Handle Animal and the Skill focus. Other than that, a pretty great monster. Oh and don't forget to list overly large tennis shoes in the reasure listing :D.

Good lord, I forgot about its SQ: Scissors and clippers vulnerabilities. Duh- how much damage do they do anyway? Wasn't that in Sword and Fist?

Hmm... until I find the stats for them, I'll leave him as is...

:D

Can't we change the name of the monster from "Hair Beast" to Gossamer? That was the monster's name in the two cartoons it appeared in. :D

Yer right on about the hp...

Animal empathy and handle animal? To help in petting and loving and calling him George.
Uh, I hate to be a naysayer in my very first post here, but it wasn't Gossamer that called his pets George, but it was the Abominable Snowman. Looney Tunes was (and still is) my favorite television show ever (followed up by maybe Tiny Toon Adventures).
I have no life, so what?

heh... Well, Prince of Stories, I'm the most anti-tv guy this side of the Unabomber, so I'll take your word for it; so maybe I'm mixing my metaphors (as it were) but we already have stats for the AS (or yeti, as he's known in the east :) )

Ah, well... think of this fellow as tribute to the whole show, then... ;)

Right you are. Gossamer was in the cartoons with Bugs. The Abominable Snowman is in a different one with Bugs and Daffy.

Here is a link to a pic of Goss.
