Warhammer d20

I know a lot of folks out here praise Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying as a great game for those who like their low-magic, gritty fantasy. I've never played the game, but I do own the army lists for the wargame (came free with an issue of White Dwarf a number of years ago before Warhammer 6th edition was released.)

Has anyone tried to convert that to d20 as a Warhammer Bestiary of some sorts?

I've also asked several times about Warhammer 40K, but never heard anything there either. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

A good many of the creatures in the WHFRP Bestiary -or their near equivalents- can already be found in the MM. Orcs, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Undead, Dragons, Ogres, Trolls, etc. Obviously, the stats don't match up exactly, but they're pretty much the same idea in both games; designed to fit the appropriate system. Make Chaos Beastmen into gnolls, Skaven into non-magical wererats & you're good to go.

ehh... Except that tons of those MM entries are very different from what you see in WHFB. Some of them you could probably just "take" but many of them you could not. Wererats as skaven is probably the most "out there" idea on your list. I could steal CC's ratmen (slitheren) for that, at least.

"CC" = Call of Cthulhu? I suppose it has something similiar. I don't have my books with me.

There are enough creatures altogether in the WH Bestiary (not sure about the wargame) that I guess the question to ask is what is it you want to have? Do you want a supplemental list of d20 creatures based on the WH monsters? Or are you looking to recreate the setting of the Old World?

If the latter, then I would recommend playing the WH rules and not d20. There are so many things in that system that simply wouldn't translate well to d20. Not to mention it's a pretty good game in it's own right! :D

If the former, then the short answer to your original question is I don't know of anyone actively working on a conversion, but I think that several like the ones I mentioned that the MM already has a version of are pretty close.

Sorry if this isn't much help.

The former, really. Not that I'm not interested in the setting, but more because I like to homebrew too much to ever play a setting straight out of the book.

Also, because I really like d20 -- it does everything I need it to and I'm not interested in another system. Well, except that I don't like standard D&D magic, of course, but CoC magic, or SS magic or something else would work quite well here, I think.

Warhammer is great break from D&D and is a lot of fun. The game system has some issues but over all works well. What really makes the game is the world history, the detail, setting.

A lot of the monsters can be taken from the MM or other books and used in d20 with just their background. At one time there was a d20 conversion site but I show the link as broken but here is a resource site:

Is the RPG book the best source for Warhammer "flavor" then? Or would another book yield more plunder for a D&D DM/worldbuilder?

White Dwarf the magzine use to have a lot of world material, don't know if it still does.

Some of the game books were okay but did not have too much overall.

Workshop puts out Warhammer army books, they show the painting and standards of the Battles minature game but they have a lot of wonderful information on the races. I think the books are over priced but you may be able to find them second hand. A good bit of this material was re-published for White Dwarf.

Check out the Hogshead site but I would see what the web has to offer.

Scarred Lands and Iron Kingdons has a lot of Warhammer feel to them.
