Mire of Despair (Ravenloft 3.5 - full)

First Post
I really miss horror checks and insanity, so I've decided to try DMing a ravenloft adventure. Roleplay oriented, although there will be plenty of combat.

This is for 4-5 8th level characters. Use 32 point buy for character creation, max hit points for 1st level, roll for the rest. I'll trust you for rolling hit points.

Starting gold is 27,000. 3.5 rules will be used (yeah, I know - the great satan, but I like it. You can be proficient with primitive firearms if you wish. PHB races only. Core rules + 3.0 splatbooks only. I'd suggest no evil characters, no necromancers, and a balanced party, but that's up to you.

Your character can be from Ravenloft, Greyhawk, or Forgotten Realms settings. Your character will start wherever you want. The Mists will take you to where you need to be . . .

However, I'd like the background to have either a family member or a close friend with an infant . . .

If you're not familiar with Ravenloft, that's fine - great, actually. It'll be more fun to learn the secrets of the Domain of Dread through experience!

edit - one quirk. You can have firearms, but only firearm ammunition can be enchanted, not the shooter. No +1 Flaming Muskets.

Players:

Mithreandar
Tharn Iranorn
Jarval
Andrew D. Gable
Brother Shatterstone

Festy Dog

I'm game, though I'm not familiar with 3.5 (or at least not o the point that I am with 3.0) I'll post a character shortly... a dwarven mage, if that's permisable.

Oh, and I know VERY little abour Ravenloft.

Edit: Can I use Item Creation Feats and start at 7th?

Dwarven wizard is fine. You'll start half-way between 8th and 9th (32000) so you can create items if you wish.

As long as you have the 3.5 rules, it should be fine. Familiarity w/ ravneloft is not an issue - you'll quickly learn to hate it.

Sounds very interesting. I've wanted to give Ravenloft a go for some time, and the chance of horror checks and insanity seems too good to pass up.

There may be one problem, however. I'm going to be away (and unlikely to have Internet access) from the 21st until the 29th. If that's going to be a problem for you, I'll understand you skipping me :)

Hi all, if you have the SRD, that should be fine - the play is mostly like 3.0, and this will be a RP-heavy campaign.

Also, no ravenloft exp. is fine as well - you can start anywhere, and be transported to ravenloft. You don't need any knowledge. But it'll help you not get caught in some of the RL stuff.

Timing - I'm also out from the 23rd to 27th. so no rush, things won't start until at least the 28th.

Count me in, too (assuming there's space open). Practically my entire DnD career, I've wanted to play/run Ravenloft. What domain are you starting in? I'll get to the guy tonight or tomorrow most likely.

Hmmm I guess I can add this to my list of things to do and play as I've wanted to play this for a long time. :D

I have 3.5 books, Ravenloft d20 campaign setting, and a ton of the old 2nd edition books and the original module by Hickman.

Wow, I'm surprised at the interest in Ravenloft - most people fall on their swords when I mention it.

This adventure will be set in Mordent, but characters need not (and probably better, should not) be set there. The mists can bring your PC from wherever you are, which is why you can start in any setting.

This will not feature any/b] of the npc's from the gazetteer, or denizens, etc. You also will not be facing a darklord, but some miscellaneous evil, set in a small corner of mordent. PC's from Ravenloft will start in Darkon.

Also, players will start out separately.

Looking forward to the characters!

How "odd" of a character do you want and what about classes from other campaigns...?

Toss one out for you to think about:

Knight of Solamnia. (From Dragonlance fame, btw this is a prestige class in the new DL d20 campaign)

I have the book on order and should have it before the 29th. :) Also a connection between ”Krynn” and the "Demi-Plane of Dread" has happened before…
:D
