[MnM]Awakenings(OOC)

Shalimar

First Post
Hi all, I am finally breaking done after almost 2 years on the boards and going to be running an MnM game, set about 15 years into the future. I am looking for between 4 possibly players who can post regularly. You can expect a GM post daily. Alright, lets get down to the details of character generation, shall we?

All Characters will be PL 5, 75 power points to start. Each character can have a maximum of one weakness, I'd really rather keep these very rare, and very big, a weakness, is just that, a weakness. Superman has a weakness, Thing has a weakness, Spiderman does not, Batman does not. I reserve veto right over any weakness, and at the very least we will talk about it and see what we can come up with.

All Characters, Male, or Female are between the ages of 15-17, that is pretty firm, although, talk to me, and we may work something out. All ethnicities will be available, but all players must speak English in addition to their own foreign language, if they had one. For the sake of this game, Penetrating Attack is as follows:

Penetrating Attack: When this feat is applied to an attack, treat the protection bonus of the target as Amazing Save (Damage), instead of protection. You may take this feat multiple times, but each time it applies to a different attack.

Impervious Extra: Treat an attack modified by Penetrating Attack Feat, as a regular attack for protection bonuses.

The money system is the credit chit, Wealth and independent income feats are not available. Cosmic Power and Time Travel are dis-allowed. I'll post some Background Info once I see if I have any interest.

EDIT: We will be going with 1pp = 2 skill points
EDIT: We will be going with PL 5

A Mutants and Masterminds game run by Shalimar? Sure, I'll sign up if you want to have me. You at least know I can post a lot, if nothing else.

Do you mind if I ask a few questions about the world? Will all of our characters have some mutual power source like the Comet in Toki's game? How advanced is technology? Are superhumans a recent development, or have they existed for a long time?

Why no Cosmic Power (for no real reason, just curious)?

Of course I'd love to have you Hammerhead.

Now, in answer to your questions: Yes, all characters will have the same power source, Mutation. The only other power source availible in game is super-science, and that isn't availible to you guys, at least not at the start, maybe later, after certain events happen, depending on how they go.

Technology is pretty advanced, hovercars, Universal Healthcare that has eliminated most diseases, there is a Geo-synch Space station, but I don't imagine you guys getting up there, Virtual Reality, and the normal stuff that would come from 20 years of advancement. I wont go into all of that, for the simple fact that your characters will only know about half of it. I guess the simplest way is to post my introduction, and that should answer a few of your questions, it wont answer all of them, because, well, somethings if I explained them would ruin the surprise. I will say that your characters knowing each other to strt is somewhat unlikely unless you happen to be siblings.

Superhumans are not as of yet actually a developement at all, no one know has ever seen one, no one knows they exist. Here, give me a moment to post it, and then you'll have better questions (to the extent that you will know what to ask about, not that these were bad)

Oh, Cosmic Power, the reason its disallowed is because it really doesn't fit into the setting, neither does time-travel since anyone with a brain would go and rewrite a lot of the history, so that is a no-no too.

Slouching Towards the Apocalypse

Humanity has fallen into war, in the year 2004 the third World War started when a small nuclear weapon was detonated in Israel by Palestinian extremists. 10 months later, the war was still grinding on, a UN coalition, was doing its best to bring about peace talks, but unfortunately, all of the old grudges came out, as they so often do, and the war ground on. The major players in the war were the regulars, England, France, Germany, the United States, Japan, and Italy.

The War went on, some nations joining in on the fighting, others leaving it, but always, somewhere, people were fighting, people were dying. Over 100 million died within the first year of the fighting, by the second year, over 300 million more had died, and the third year of fighting looked to be shaping up much the same way. That’s when it happened, no one is sure exactly what caused it, some think Aliens, others think it was released as weapon, others don't even bother to speculate, we simply don't know. Reports began coming in of a sickness that was spreading throughout the middle-east.

It started with a fever, and progressed flu like for a week, leaving the afflicted weak, dizzy, and hallucinating. Those infected ate enough for a family of 4, a hardship even in peaceful times, it was a disaster during the food shortages caused by the war. Over the Fifth, sixth, and Seventh days, the patient began to vomit blood, and at the very end, the blood poured from the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. The Virus became known as Absolution, so named by a missionary who said the suffering it caused absolved everyone of their sins and brought them unto the kingdom of Heaven.

No one knew how to stop the virus from spreading, it was more complex then any other virus or disease that had come before, and there were simply no anti-bodies. It became common practice to push the bodies of the dead back into building, and burn down entire cities to keep the disease from spreading. The good news was that the war was over, the bad news was that there were simply not enough people left to fight it. Over 99% of the Earth's population was wiped away by Absolution in the course of 2 months, leaving a bare 14.8 million survivors by the time that a vaccination was found and perfected. Even with the Vaccine available, people refused to come for it, afraid of gathering lest they catch the disease. To this day, there are still pockets of humans in far flung little groups, eking at an existence in their tiny villages, still afraid that the Absolution virus will come for them.

In the wake of the vaccination and the loss of all of the old World governments, new leadership was needed. Because those who had come for the vaccine were from all of the over the world, it was no easy task, but a unified world government was formed, although that might be a bit pretentious as this world government had less then a tenth of the population of a large city before the outbreaks. This new unified Government was named the Federated Commonwealth, or Fed-Com for short. Run by an elected Council that ran high to Scientists and Doctors, it was an idealistic government, or so it would seem.

There were no taxes in the conventional sense, no out-dated laws, the government was truly a blank slate. The only requirement, was that if you did not work, you would not eat. In short order, an Ultra Modern city was built, Hope, built by the cannibalization of building materials from the surrounding area. Hope was built 10 miles from the ruins of Washington DC. Living off of the stock piled resources of the United States, the Fed-Com did quite well for itself, sparring no expense on scientific research and medical technology, and advances were made at breakneck speed.

It was during some of this medical research 5 years later that an anomaly was discovered, to the head of the project, it looked as if another mutation of the Absolution virus was beginning to form in the body of his subject, worried, he tested more and more people, until he came up with enough cases to bring it to the Council. The council, fearing the extinction of the human race, ordered universal testing, and it was determined through testing that 1327 people were afflicted with this new iteration of the virus. While none of those afflicted had shown any symptoms, it was determined that no chance would be taken on allowing the virus to mature in its new strain to again threaten humanity. Each of the patients was place in Cryogenic stasis until such time as a cure for the new strain could be found. It was noted with some interest that all of those inflicted, both male and female, were between the ages of 15-17, and was it possible that it had something to do with the vaccine for absolution being administered during puberty?

Well, it looks like we have 2 interested, what with the boards being down so much, the fact that we have that already is a good sign I think. Hopefully the setting isn't too dark for anyone, I have been told I can be fairly scary. As a note, this wont be as soap-operaish as Generation Legacy, the future is a dark place, The title of the Introduction: Slouching towards the Apocalypse, should have given that away.

I'm interested, if you'll have me and there's still room. I definitely can post every day.

Keia

Yep, still room :p. Post up your Character concepts, I want 4 to 5 Solid characters, the places in the game will go to the ones that are best thought out, the ones that I almost feel could be real people. I'll accept as many applications as people want to give, but I will only pick the best to be inlcuded.

Remember, none of you know that you have super-human powers. All you know is what was posted in the introduction, anything beyond that, you were in the deep freeze, and you don't know whats going on. Naturally the first scene will be all of you waking from your sleep. I'll throw up a rougues Gallery in a moment and put in a sample character, one you should try and follow. All of a characters powers must follow a central theme, no just throwing on a random power like protection that doesn't fit in with the rest of your theme. Also, no powers with the device flaw, you haven't had access to devices in the past few years, all you have is what you went into the tube with, and that would be nothing.

Character Idea:
Josiah was always small – ‘small and wiry’ his elder brother Jonah used to call him. With his compact size Josiah had a speed and a strength that was surprising for one especially at his age. Josiah had dreams of playing football and being famous when he grew up and got off the farm. He got off the farm – though not in any way he would even have anticipated.

Josiah Blackburn was born in America in the state of Indiana to parents who were hard working farmers. His parents owned the farm, one of the few single family farms of the age and area, until the war. Josiah himself was hardworking for his age, only 6 at the time the war started. Josiah’s eldest brother, Jonah, was ‘drafted’ for the war (not really, but the local recruiter had significant influence in the community and ‘encouraged’ Jonah’s parents to have him join the service). Jonah never returned home. . . Everyone worked hard to support the effort, though Josiah only knew it was hard work. The hard work kept young Josiah lean and muscular.

When the virus started and spread, the demands on the farm were tremendous. His parents could not keep up with the demands or the pressures of the needy. In fact, Josiah’s mother was delivering food to a nearby city when it was declared quarantined for an outbreak of the virus. Her final call home broke Josiah’s father. He just . . . stopped working so hard. His father lost control of the farm and was forced to work the land he once owned and cherished for much, much less than he normally would have made as the owner. News of the virus cure, was the final objective that prompted elder Blackburn to action. He sent his youngest son Josiah and his daughter of fifteen, Mary, to be vaccinated.

On the journey, Mary came down with the virus symptoms and was tossed into a quarantine by an angry mob (are there any other kinds?). Josiah found that odd because she hadn’t be sick on the journey, and Josiah wasn’t infected by the virus. Only later would Josiah realize that his sister was probably condemned to death for a cold or allergy.

Feeling even more small and alone, ten year old Josiah Blackburn received the vaccination and returned home to his father only to find nothing remained of the farm or his father. Anger over a lack of production or simply an act of vandalism had destroyed all that there was. Josiah returned to the city where he got the vaccination, and ended up in an overcrowded orphanage, hunger and alone. Due to the torments of the bigger kids, Josiah often slipped out of the orphanage and played the streets in the interim, searching for goods that had been left behind in empty buildings – occasionally finding enough to sell to companies, eat well and survive.

A fateful sale to a particular facility led to his scan . . . and to a long, long sleep. He slept . . . still dreaming of being famous some day.

Abilities:
Just describing the abilities of Josiah: I would like for him to have shrinking, though retaining his strength. I figure super dex and str linked to it and only active when shrinking was active (hopefully applying as flawed [continuous to sustained] extras to shrinking). A dab of super speed and regen would wrap things up. I don’t see him having any disadvantages. Sort of the Atom (without the atomic furnace, which I don't think would fit the mutant source, or my background story).

Personality:
Josiah is well mannered and quiet. When forced to talk, his speech is littered with “Ma’am” and “Sir” regardless of person. Josiah is a country boy at heart, has a large welcome smile and bright eyes - looking for the good in someone else presented with evidence to the contrary. Through all of his travails, Josiah has remained a religious person, believing in purpose and a higher order. Due to his troubles at the orphanage, Josiah works hard not to be noticed. When cornered or otherwise threatened, Josiah unleashes his anger and frustration upon those that threaten him, forgetting his manners and upbringing and fighting like a wild animal. It’s always the quiet ones, isn’t it?

Appearance:
Josiah is just a shade under five foot tall and weighs around 130 pounds. Many assume, due to his small size, that Josiah is much younger than he actually is. He has shoulder length brown hair that just seems to have a mind of its own – making mothers around the world want to reach out and fix it. His green eyes cloud to grey when angered or upset. His skin has that ‘I was well tanned once’ look to it.
