help me find a fire based sorcerer prestige classes?

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
I have a sorcerer who would like to aim for fire-based prestige class.

I've seen Elemental Savant and Candle Caster from Tome & Blood, but neither of those really covers the kind of thing that I'm looking for (and the savant is pretty bland too).

Ideally I'm looking for a prestige class with decent spell progression (ideally full spell progression :)) and with a strong emphasis on fire.

I'd be interested to hear about possible examples from Dragon, from supplements, any reasonable source. Hopefully the metaconsciousness which is ENworld will be able to point me towards some useful candidates!

Cheers

Rituals & Relics I had one IIRC... have no books here though. Pyromancer? Wasn't there a bad one in Tome & Blood as well?

I had a fire sorcerer in my game but I mainly used some housefeats for him instead of building a prestige class.

I liked the way it was handled in Mongoose's Encyclopaedia Arcane: Elementalism.

It is NOT a Prestige Class, so if you want to go the PrCl path just don't mind my suggestion. Instead it works as a Wizard's school specialization, where instead of the school you can choose an element (Fire) and forbid yourself from the opposite element (Water).

You don't advance in elemental specialization by level, but rather you have to pay time, money and Xp to get one step further in the specialization, although there is a minimum level requirement to gain the next step and a minimum delay between two steps.

The further you specialize, the more spells are subjects to the benefits (and also more opposite spells forbidden): for example, first you get better with straight fire-based spells, and later with spells which have a lesser than direct connection with fire.

If you want, I could check more at home from the book for the Fire version specifically...

there was something in the new Draconomicon. don't have it here at work. :o

and also in one of the FR supplements for 3ed.

In a recent issue of Dragon (last 2-3 months) there is a set of feats for sorcerers that make them more in tune with their "bloodlines" - all the elements are covered, celestial / fiendish, etc. You take the feat and it grants you an extra spell known per level, with the spells being related to your "bloodline". So for the fire sorcerer you gain some bonus fire-based spells, as well as vaguely related things like hypnotic pattern (ooh, pretty flames!). The feat also grants you a small bonus on something "bloodline"-related.

Also, if you have the Githyanki Incursion issue of Dungeon, you could modify the Holocaust Warrior PrC into a more generic (non-Githyanki) version. It grants bonuses on all spells with the fire descriptor, lets you make your weapons flaming, etc. But it's not a full spellcasting progression PrC - more of a warrior/mage hybrid.

The issue of Dragon with the Bloodline feats is #311. (shameless plug, I wrote the article) Unless you are just set on PrCs youmight just want to stick with Sorcerer and take the Fire Bloodline and Energy Substitution and the various Imporved Familiar Feat trees if you have access to them. Be careful with your spell selection and you can get all the flavor you want for a Fire Sorcerer. If you are looking for more control over a Fire Elemental then there is the Bonded Summoner in the Mini Handbook. Spell Progression isn't as good as youmight want, but the Large Fire Elemental standign behind you might make up for it.

Stormborn, you wrote that? Coolness! ^_^

As a suggestion, you may want to consider a follow-on, to deal with Epic-level Bloodline feats (new epic bloodlines, and epic feats dependant on the ones already presented). ^_^

My newest character in my Arena (see link in SIG, below) has the Celestial Bloodline as much for flavor as for anything. I think it's a great, grand idea.

I've never liked WOTC's take on the Dragon Disciple ... whatever I write up to replace that IMC offline, will probably require a bloodline-type feat related to draconic heritage for entry.

For the original poster: if your GM allows you to ret-con a bit, the "Bloodline of Fire" feat in the FRCS (unrelated to Stormborn's bloodline feats) is superb for a fire-based sorceror.

Ok, maybe it's not as mighty as some other suggestion... but what about taking the "Pyro" feat?
It's on Song and Silence if I remember well...
Enjoy!
